I have checked the Schaeffler/INA catalog and the follower 928 105 311 06 (INA no. 420 0009 10) is no longer available. The follower dimensions are OD 38mm, height 32mm.

Is this really a problem? I can honestly say that I have not ever heard of a bad lifter in a 16 valve. I am not saying that it never happens, but I have never seen or known anyone that has. These things are super simple and as such there is not much to go wrong with them. There must be thousands of used ones that are perfectly fine out there....

But, say in my case, where I'll be putting used euro cams in a different motor, where the lifters have worn in to the original camshafts, what's one supposed to do? Could you resurface the tops of them so that you don't have conflicting wear? If new ones aren't available......SOL?

If there is no pitting or wear on those lifters you can reuse without a problem, just follow a proper break in procedure.

Put in a bottle of AC Delco engine oil supplement (this is basically ZDDP concentrate),
Start engine and hold at 1800-2k rpm for 20 min.

Them drive your engine normally.

This is what WEB-Cam say about INA lifters.

We have heard you do not recommend lifters made by INA, how come?
Because the hydraulic lifters seem to fail and do not pump up like the OEM's do. We have had several customers purchase them and they will not pump up anymore and become solid. We tell them to buy them from a Porsche dealer and they do look completely different, and also do not have those issues.

When building up a 944 Turbo a few years ago discovered Porsche is outsourcing 944 lifters from INA. Once Porsche ran out of old stock the 944 Turbo guys with hotter web-cams started having the problems described, lifters going soft and not pumping up, they were also scratched and pitted where they followed the cam. The only difference we could find was the original stock lifters were harder. I forget what the rockwell hardness of each was, but older OEM lifters tested much harder than new INA lifters. INA said because of EPA restrictions they could no longer follow the process to make the lifters as hard as the original ones.
