Default INA Lifters -- NLA?

Hi from 944-land. I just looked and none of the normal 944 stores seem to carry INA 944 lifters anymore -- part No. 928 105 311 06 -- everybody just seems to have genuine Porsche lifters at $225 a piece or so ($1800 for 8!!! -- $3600 for a 928 motor!). There are some no name sellers on Amazon who are selling lifters for $75-$100, which I presume are INAs. Old stock? Anybody know the story?

This is for 2 valve heads. IIRR some European Ford Sierra lifter can be used as substitute and they are cheap compared to Porsche pricing. Not owning early cars haven't really paid attention what works but there should be alternatives available.

I sell the VW lightweight lifter for $13 each they replace the lifters in the 928.
I checked with the major wholesalers here in the States but 928 105 311 06 seems to not be available any more.

Do people have good luck using these VW versions? I've seen reference to them having a smaller oil reservoir?

I have sold plenty of sets over the last couple of years with zero issues. I have them in my GTS and I beat the heck out of it.
Rumor has it that Greg Brown uses them in his fine stroker motors.

Forgive me, I'm a 951 guy, but I thought the 928 GTS had 4 valves per cylinder and therefore would use 928.105.312.02 rather than the 928.105.311.06 lifters I'm looking for? Are we talking about the same lifters?

No worries and thanks for responding. Bummer though -- so no substitutes for the 16v lifter?

The lifters are 38mm diameter.
Do a search for 38mm hydraulic lifter and see if anything comes up.

The Ford lifters are out of an Escort Cosworth. They conveniently come in sets of 16.

For the US guys, you'll find "lifters" are called "tappets" in the UK

If the ones in the cossie are the same size, you'll probably find some info on cosworth forums in the UK.

edit: appears ford cosworth uses 35mm lifters
