Default 928 Race Car - Price Valuation

I needs some help figuring out the value of a 928 race car.

Here's what I know about it so far...

1980 Chassis
5.0L 16V euro'S' motor (low hours, 10 races)
G28-03 gearbox w/LSD
Full roll cage
Fuel cell
Lexan rear windows
Modified suspension
S4 brakes
Corbeau seats
5-point safety belt

It's a turn-key racer. What is the 'going rate' for something like this?

I would have the roll cage inspected by NASA, SCCA, PCA.....(Pick one) to make sure it's legal.

I don't see a cross brace connecting the two down bars from the a-pillar. I thought that was required for all the above sanctioning bodies. Unless it's up under the dash? Thought they had to be lower.....

/holiday inn is comfy.

That sure doesn't look like a five litre. Still nice.

Looks like a well thought out car...

I'd be concerned about the non-FIA seats. Get the cage inspected and make sure it meets what you are planning on doing. I also see they have removed the belt driven fan... did they convert to electric or just assume this car will always be moving and not need one?

Race cars are particularly hard to estimate for value. Really, it's what the parties agree on. Roughly 1/3 to 2/3 of the amount invested seems to be the going rate. This is why it's always cheaper to buy one than to create one.

Good point about cage certification that should be extended to all safety requirements. Seats, fuel, fire extinguisher, etc.

And the 5L is inside; you can't see it at all.

It would be where the "dash" is if it's there and they didn't consider the stock cross tube structure as sufficient. If you oogle the car during the cage build, the new bar wants to go above the existing structure.

Speaking of that area, is the whole rain basin below the windshield base gone? What happens to your feet when it rains?

FIA seats are not a concern in the US, at least not in SCCA and NASA. The belts do expire and if you have a fuel cell in NASA, you have to replace the damn bladder every 5 years which sucks. I did that recently and replaced a perfectly good bladder that's made from the same material as a stock fuel tank which doesn't expire.

It may also need a window net and center net.

Does this car have a current logbook? That's a big selling point and could be the biggest one for a race car.

Hard to put a price on it. My gut said $10k as well.
I know two 928 Race Cars forsale in Texas -- one in Dallas and one in Austin (James Morrison's)

Needs real rollbar padding and more of it.

Needs a back brace more than likely for drivers seat.

What maintenance history is on the car? Like how are the rod bearings?

What do you plan to do with it? DE, Racing?

Is there a cross brace from the Drivers B pillar to the Passenger A pillar?
Might not be needed, but I would want one.

No NASCAR drivers side -- many series are considering that or may already require it.

No punch through bars along sills.

Wonder if that "Coca-Cola" car ever sold and what it went for? Could be a good reference point, however that one had a lot of provenance.
