Thanks to all. I spend the weekend at home and on my W XP 32 bit machine I ran the workshop manual and PET.

Me also John but 7.3 is an improvement, especially if you don't go past update 306, you keep the coloured VIN filter working.
The issue with 7.3 and 64bit is installing. It's great however, on 32bit.

I spent the night with PET5 on my 64 bit machine using Virtual PC in W XP mode.
I'm a happy camper. Thanks to all who answered and offered suggestions.
