Performance Chip for 86.5
I've searched the threads and found some good information. My car currently has the old autothority chips in it (im told - will be checking them tomorrow). I'm looking for an improvement in performance. I have a baseline dyno run that I did in January. Would appreciate a PM from owners who have upgraded to the "porkken" chip set for their experience. I have reached out to Roger and Ken but havent heard back yet. Would like to hear from some owners who have made the switch.
thanks.
thanks.

177, I will be following your thread.
I have not made the switch yet, but I'm close... need FPR and injectors cleaned.
I don't have a baseline Dyno test on mine, and I haven't seen a stock vs. autothority run -- but I'd be curious to know.
Regards.

There is no comparison, the Porken chips will blow you away. I've gone through probably 4 iterations with Kens chips, I started with the Autothority and even Ken's first chips were much better. Better torque band more HP there is absolutely NO comparison. I had the Autothority installed when Frenzy was there many years ago. They are better than stock but nowhere near as good as the Porken chips. At Autothority, pre AA chips numbers were 237HP, 221 TQ with AA chips - 253HP, 252 TQ, with Ken's chips - 270HP, 268TQ.

The Porken S3000 chips are the gold standard for pre-programmed performance chips for the S3 years. Autothority doesn't even come close. Like Glen said, no comparison whatsoever. Just check his website liftbars.com and do your due diligence with searching the forums. Everyone and their dog can vouch for Porken chips. The only alternative is sharktuning your own car and modifications.
You have to know there are requirements before chipping your car. The engine has to be in factory performance condition with all deferred and important maintenance items addressed and the transmission should be at least be serviced. You also need to have your MAF rebuilt, clean injectors or 4-hole Mustangs, and an '87 FPR to regulate for the higher fuel pressure.
I'm still raving over mine and I have a trans that has slippage. It's night and day what those chips will do to the car. Literally jail time fun because if you're caught having fun, jail time.

Lots of info on here and like Glen and myself, some of us worked at 'test mules' through many iterations until it reached the version that was finally settled on.
I don't know if I would go as far as to say that you need a rebuilt MAF and all new top-end stuff, but it all does have to be within spec and you can't try this until your car is running (and idling) perfectly.
Fuel lines should definitely be replaced.
For a little more fun, play around with the cam timing using his tools AND add the s300s chips. I got over 300hp on the dyno from my car at the wheels and the torque is just scary awesome.

Thanks for the info. Very helpful.
My car isnt exactly stock (autothority chips, x pipe, headers & free flow exhaust, converted 5 speed) but the motor is in good tune and has been maintained.
Some of my questions come in around the amount of items that need to be checked/replaced in order for the chips to work properly. I just finished the water pump/timing belt so I'm reasonably handy. The site shows info about the fuel pressure regulator, MAF, injectors - but there's nothing listed about new fuel lines. This was the first I had heard.
Happy to have this conversation offline with someone so I can replicate their experience. I'm in New Jersey and can also meet locally. thanks.
