Default Haltech sport 1000 with 100-2 trigger wheel possible?

Hi all,

Has anyone used a Haltech sport 1000 together with the stock 100-2 crank trigger wheel on the in my case a euro 4.7L 16V -84 engine. I don't find that option in the drop down meny when trying to setup the ECU (and please don't tell me it's not possible....). It seems like the maximum no of teeth is 72. My registration on the Haltech forum page hasen't been approved yet so I'll ask you guys here in the mean time .

Thanks,

Sverker

If you do t see it, I doubt it. Find and early 60-2 wheel, that's what I did for my mega squirt. That system runs 100-2 as well I believe. Haltech is nice, but with that budget u can always have a tone ring made.

The thing is that I already have the Haltech and it was used on my broken -81 engine where the PO used it with a home made cyl 1 ref sensor and crank trigger wheel (with 4 teeth). My replacement engine (-84 LH-Jetronic) has the standard 100-2 trigger flywheel and I hoped I could use that one instead. I've never worked with car ECUs before but to me it sounds strange (bad) if it's not possible to define your own trigger wheel setup as it's only a software setting (I suppose..).

I have Haltech E6x with 60-2 wheel. It can be inputted to use 100 tooth wheel.
Call or mail Haltech, they are very supportive.

PM me if you need any Haltech info on set up or tuning.

Tony,
what is your take on an aftermarket fuel management system on a 928? I'm asking because the car I bought (a 83 928s with an 88 S4 engine) is very frustrating to tune, and performance is not what I would expect from those cars. So, I'm seriously considering a new fuel/ignition system. How would that work on a mostly stock S4 engine?

I have Haltech E6x, MAP sensor, Bosch 42# injectors, with MSD box. Still using the distributor but the shaft is welded so the Haltech controls ignition.

Base tuning wasn't bad but understanding the correction maps took a whole summer of driving.

Close to 500 HP with the Vortech. Unleashed a lot of power being able to advance the ignition timing at different engine modes. My last 1/4 mile time (using the Powerdyne 6 psi dyno 430 hp) was 13.2 sec but the tires spun. Its a 5 speed so I loose 1 full second shifting 1-4.

Yes, I will contact Haltech as soon as the holidays are over and thanks Tony, I might PM you with some more questions if and when I get my system up and running! Since you have the 100 teeth option I hope mine can be set up the same.

I would be interested in hearing how an install and tune goes.
I installed the electromotive kit [Tec GT-4] that Carl 928ms put together.
It has been a learning curve that is for sure.

same with mega squirt. starting from a "zero/scratch" tune is always fun.

Damn... 100-1 (not -2 as I wrote first) is not supported by the ECU . This info just added a sh...load of extra work that I could have done without. Makes me wonder why I didn't deal with this MINOR task before I put the engine back in the bay... Right now I feel like ditching the Haltech and get a VEMS or something.

Despite the new mounting bracket, new sensor, cable etc. adding a 60-2 wheel at the front probably is the fastest and cheapest way to go. It just bugs me that I can't use the flywheel trigger

You can use the 100-1 ring with VEMS. VEMS also handles the power the stock reference sensor puts out with no issues.

thats why i did what i did to add the 60-2 to the flywheel. i don't like the looks of the ring on the front of the crank.

I don't like the front trigger wheel either. Maybe selling the Haltech will pay for some of what the VEMS cost. A new Haltech cost like ~$2000 here in Sweden and a VEMS seems to sell for around $700. I'm quite attempted to go down this route..

I make flywheels with 60-2 timing rings on them for both twin-disk and single-disk cars. Maybe that's all you need?

Here's a link to them if it helps: http://www.928motorsports.com/parts/...umflywheel.php
