So... How hard did these new guys look under the car? The guy that smogs mine just asks if they are there.

This guy looked and mumbled to himself "there's the air injection tube", then proceeded to prepare the dyno. Basic eyeball, the other shop was looking at everything, but nothing on the car for their 'friend'

It's even more ironic because I'm part Mexican and I can't speak a word of it!

It's no more odd that I cannot speak German, Norwegian, and Icelandic.

Ironically, the cheap cats did keep the NOX down. With the OE cats now, the numbers went down to 200-250.

Just out of curiousity, is it possible to feel a loss of HP when going back to the factory cats? Seems like ever since I ditched the 2.5" x-pipe and HF cats back to the OE setup, the car feels slower at the top end now.

Don't the makers of the x-pipe project an increase of 20-30 hp by replacing the standard exhaust with the x-pipe and HF cats? That's a 7% to 10% increase. I'd suspect you'd feel the loss of those horses.

I felt a loss when replaced the straight pipe with a converter on the '83. A proper converter needs an X amount of surface area to scrub the gases and this will increase backpressure and cost some hp.

Default Catalytic Converter Requirements

This is old news re: catalytic converter requirements, but there is a thread about it on the Turbo forum, so thought I'd post the referenced EPA link here.
