That's right! The shifter has been worker really well. To my knowledge, I am the only guy using this shifter on track! It really took the slop out of the shifter and makes shifting a pleasure. I should also mention that my transmission's centering spring is inop, and this shifter really helped. Thanks Hans!

AO - with all the focus on the Coca Cola Livery coming up at the IMSA race in Atlanta - will the 928 make an appearance?

Hey all,

Would love to make an appearance in Atlanta, but I don't think it's in the cards. Also nothing too exciting planned this winter. Trailer got broken into a few weeks ago, they stole my generator. Car is fine.

Was at M1 concourse a couple weeks ago. Not a particularly exciting track, but managed to chase down cars that were half the age of the Coke car and newer. Had some issues with the power steering at the 180* corner. Fine on "normal" turns. Might have to look into that. Have a gander.

Oh, and a local guy here with a SCed 928 race car was 6 seconds faster than me!

So this past fall, I severely flat-spotted one of my slicks at VIR (ABS seems to have stopped working... will deal with that later). Decided to finish the session with the vibration - in hindsight that might not have been the best decision Swapped tires between session and noticed a little ticky-ticky in the trans. But wasn;t willing to stop running - again, in hindsight, maybe not the best decision.

A little backstory is needed here:

A couple years ago I was at Mid-Ohio and had a horrible noise develop as I was braking on the back straight. It turned out the little cotter pin that holds the "bearing" (actually its a tiny rod) that the centering spring rides on, boke. This allows the "bearing" to fall out and ping-pong around in the trans and allowed the centering sproing to run along 3rd(?) gear. Wrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I drained the trans, fished out the clumps of metal, cut an access panel to take the top of the gear box cover off, and managedn the lay the centering spring down along the side of the gear set (couldn;t get it out). Been like this for a couple years now. Does make shifting a bit tougher, but it got me back into the thick of things that weekend.

So back to my weekend at VIR. Everything seemed fine after on the new wheels and tires. The noise didn't get worse, but didn't get better either. On the last session of the last day, I missed a down-shift into 3rd at south bend (top of the climbing esses). After that there was a pronounced noise from the trans. Not to say this was my only mis-shift in the car, but others we non-events (to me).

Managed to open of the beast this past weekend, and well... this isn't going to heal itself. I'm a little surprised about 4th. I almost never use 4th or 5th. Anyway, it is what it is. If ytou know of a 5-speed with LSD, let me know.

Also in store for me is an engine pull to re-seal things. I did kind of a hack job last time and now things are leaking all over the place. oil pan, cam covers. cam seal, and maybe front main. Lot to do... again.

Andrew
Do you have any type of transmission cooler on the trans? Or a temp gauge? I recall Doc made a new spray bar assembly with pump that was used in Joe Fan's racer with good results. Might be a worthy investment to ensure the life of your new trans

I do not. It's something I'm considering now. Not super difficult to do - just time and money, right?

That would be the core essence of pretty much everything for us...

I never ran a cooler in my manual 928 racers.....but also only did sprint style events of 20 min max before long cool downs and mine weren't super powerful at most 300whp. It was on my project list to at least tap a gauge into it & on the next trans Doc rebuilt for me I was going to invest in the spray bar...it just wasn't in the budget when Doc rebuilt the G28-03...which I HIGHLY recommend...shifted great for an early trans and he stiffened up the LSD to get off corners better

i bought Carl's trans cooler kit years ago , as i was building a "track" car …..but removed it now for "rally". Those special stages are also max 10...15 min and time to cool down between.
More, for rally i found it a bit dangerous for damage , pump, hoses, exposed finned cooler etc... if that get snapped… no oil will do more instant damage than "hot" oil.

Hey guys, the time has come to pass the baton. I'm putting the Coke Car up for sale. It has been a blast over the past 6 1/2 years! The Coke Car taught me so much! But I've moved on to a Cayman GT4. (Still have 2 other 928s )

The car has a fairly fresh engine that makes great power. The trans has some noise (whrrrring) but seems 100% functional. Please read through the thread for a complete history - there's a lot - probably some stuff I don't even remember.

Asking $10k. I think $10k is a VERY fair price for this awesome car. There is no way you can build a car for that price. The JRZ suspension alone cost over $5k new. Comes with 17" Fiske wheels running Nitto NT01s and 2 sets of Turbo twists (one with some "rain" tires - the other has no tires, but works well for slicks). 5-point harness belts are good for another year or more I think, but if used for DE's, most places don't check the dates. Has a 2qt(?) Accusump system with many oil filters. I probably also have a spare set of rotors and Hawk DTC-70 pads that I can through in, but need to check the inventory to confirm.

Car is located in Michigan near Ann Arbor. I have a 20' enclosed trailer that we could include in the deal for another $5k if interested, so it would be a turn-key operation. But if you already have a trailer, that's cool too. While the car is titled as an historic car, it really is not street legal. No side glass, and no headlights.
