85 5 speed 32v car. Oil leak under the intake
All, I took a look at an 85 928 32V car. The car is a parts/project car at best but the price is right. It looked like to have a pretty major oil leak under the intake and I could see wet oil on the front and the back of the block at the V.
There was also a smell of coolant but I could not see a leak. I that the coolant was topped up recently as I could see wet marks around the expansion tank.
During a 20 minute test drive, the car did not overheat however. Syncro's were not great however. As said, it's probably a parts car or ambitious project.
Thoughts would be gratefully appreciated.

Oil under the intake is likely from one or two spots. The first being the stock crankcase breather system will flood the plenums and air guide with oil that leaks around the boots to drip in the v. The second is usually a leak from the gasket for the oil fill tube. Most of this should be fixed with a topend refresh.
Coolant in the v could be from the heater hose rupture or leak between the head and the heater valve, or one of the head coolant blanks under the bracket for the fuel regulator/damper.
Sounds like it needs the usual preventive maintenance done that people start to ignore right before they sell them.

These were the same issues that my '85 had when I bought it. Not too big of a deal to fix all that if that's all it is.
But while your in there, you should plan on a complete intake refresh.
