Your suggested/best method for connecting a battery tender?

Default Your suggested/best method for connecting a battery tender?

With the battery in the trunk, I have struggled with how to properly connect a Deltran brand battery tender to keep the charge. Right now, I have the tender in the trunk, with an extension cord passed through the open window. Not ideal.

Anyways, what are your suggested ways of connecting the battery tender?

I have the tender hooked up to the Hot/jump post in the engine bay. grounded at the fender. the plug hangs down behind the front spoiler. never have to open the hood to plug it in.

I think it depends mostly on which way you park in your garage - I'd suggest the front of the car is best unless you reverse in - I imagine the reason is obvious?

In this case you can make up a connection to the jump post and the ground point in front of the radiator.

Use a HD 2-pin pull-apart connector in the grille area - so if you should drive off without disconnecting it will just pull apart. Secure the pigtail separately from its electrical connections. Located at the front it's much more visible and you can make the wire more visible still with bright colours - heat shrink tube/spray paint or even add a little flag.

However I have my Schumacher permanently installed in the passenger front fender - I always have it along for the ride and only need to plug in to a 110V connector at the front grille (I carry that cable along too - BTW its orange).

This for short term or long term?

Long term I keep the battery on a shelf in the basement.


Otherwise the jump post under the hood is the easiest way.

Weeellllll ... the end of that crossbrace seems to be within a steel mount, the bolt connecting that mount is metal as is the fender into which it's screwed. Sounds like a decent path to me. Plus, isn't carbon fiber itself a conductor?

Or am i being way too literal and missing Hacker's emoji?

Jump post under the hood for the 928.

Quick disconnect pigtail on the battery for the black car.

Positive via a ring terminal to the jump post. Ground to the ground spot by the radiator (headlight loom ground)? Then the wires just pass next to the radiator to down by the spoiler

Is this the post/method of the hot/jump post method? Yes I think so.

How do the wire(s) route towards the spoiler? Nothing else to do. Just put the positive cable of your battery tender to the hot post pin and the ground cable to any ground around. I use one of the cross brace bolt. It works very well.

Ground post for me too, but leading the connection cable rearwards to exit from the gap at the rear of the hood. Charger sits on the windshield - hard for me to miss and forget to unplug the connector - especially with the block of wood. I did consider painting it orange too 110V wall plug is opposite drivers door so car cover can go on too.

Thank you again, everyone. Some good ideas here.

Looks like the lead on the the Deltran brand Battery Tender (with quick disconnect) is about 12" long.

On other cars, I have run through the fenderwell gap. I'll have to look and see if the 12" tail is long enough to drop down to the spoiler area.

Is the Deltran brand what others use(d)?

I ran mine out of the battery box. It has both the aligator type (not used) and the 'plug type (being used) The pigtail is just above the rear bumper bottom. It cannot be seen (unless looked for).
