Mobil 1 15W50 for being fully synthetic and its high ZDDP content.

Millers 5w40 in my 1990 S4 but I live in the UK where it is cold in winter and not too hot in summer. I don't do many miles so just want an oil that will be good all year round and change once a year. Don't think I would like to start my car in winter with anything greater than a 10w#.

I see a 50 weight oil is preferred here and I have been considering Valvoline VR1 5w50 as an alternative.

I would be interested to do an oil analysis on my oil. How many miles would you need to do before you would get any useful info? I'm lucky if I am doing much more than 1k between changes.

Check this oil comparison test done by PIA. I have been using Lubriguard 15/40 for years in all our fleet veh. It works great in my 928. Check the stats, in the testing results. Use your keyboard right arrow to scroll the page to the right.

Might want to check the VR-1, not sure about the 5w50 but the heavier weights caution about extended use if you have CATS installed

Use Mobile 1 if you like oil puddles on the floor under you engine. The only time I ever experienced oil leakage was when I used M1. Royal Purple 20w50 for me, but Castrol Syntec is good too.

Just finished an OPG/MM job and noticed the dino oil varnish and a small amount of amber honey-like gel in an otherwise spotless oil pan (no particles of any kind). The PO told me he used 20-50 in whatever brand was on sale at Walmart, and changed it often. I think his perspective was: Use cheap oil and change it often being better than expensive oil and a long drain interval. So while I think the dino oil the PO used was doing a good job it did cause the varnish and amber gel stuff. The gel may be an accumulation of heavy paraffin component of the oil. Not sure.

I'd like to use Mobil 1 15W-50 full synthetic, but the cam cover seals are weeping more than year ago so I will likely use Rotella T until I replace the gaskets.

Default What weight oil

Correction- Mobil 1 15/w50. And yes, some leakage under car as linderpat has suggested. Can't deny that. But I use it in everything that rolls around this house, never an issue

Would switching to a different oil cause less leakage? I've read this is so. That Dino oil causes swelling of gaskets and the full synthetics do not.

Not sure if serious, since some of the top line synthetics are derived from coconut oil.

I wasn't but that does add to the legend of coconut oil.
