Default Tires for those of us with 16in wheels...

I just did a search on Tire Rack and see that they have a new offering in the very hard to find stock sizes.

Anyone familiar with the Toyo Proxes summer tire? I am glad to see something new in this size...

RE-11's are still more popular. The Toyo's get OK reviews for dry traction, but are not as good as the Bridgestone. The wet grip on them is moderate. Hydroplane resistance is very good. Only negative comment I get on the Toyo is that they get a bit loud as they wear.

I hope this helps.

Yes the RE-11's are great. I had them on my 16's. Only negative comment I would add is that they tend to square off after a few days of sitting, but smooth out after a few miles.

Toyo's are fantastic tires! I ran them on my Mercedes C280 with 16" wheels. Sticky when heated up, even for a sport sedan. I have 17" wheels on my car so I miss the price for 16's. Another good tire I have had luck with is the Goodyear Eagle GT. I don't know if they still make it but it's a very quiet tire, albeit not as sticky as Toyos.

I have the Proxes T1R's on my Jag XKR and they are excellent tires. Stick to the road great and super quiet.
I think they have been superseded by the T1S series. They look cool too. I might go with the Goodyear Eagles on my 928 as the current Dunlop's are getting close to the end of their life.

I'll second that RE-11's are great tires - I've had several sets of them. In my experience they rate just under Michelin Pilot Super Sports - which, of course, are not available in your size. But, I have to agree, they do tend to get pretty "square" if you don't drive on them for a couple of days....

T1R are good - I've got them on my '87 on stock 16" S4 rims. Of course, there are no alternatives in the correct load rating available, so its pretty much that or change rims

If you go to a 225/50 all round you can get the continental DWS

I am happy running Camaro 245-50-16s on by rear 245s. The speedo is closer to reality and I love a little sidewall bulge to protect my wheel lips.

Another +1 on the RE-11. Very good grip, quiet, and the tire just looks good. Mine too get a little flat when sitting, but 2 min. on the highway and everything is back to normal.

Just keep in mind, with the RE-11's treadwear at 200, the trade off is that this tire wears quickly, but these things grip the road exceptionally well.

Sorry for the hi-jack. I did try to buy the Toyo's first, but they were back ordered last October when I tried, so I bought the RE-11's (at almost twice the cost too).

IIRC, the load rating on the RE-11 fronts isn't correct fitment for an S4.

I am using bridgestone comp 2 in 225/50/16 and 245/50/16. My rims are 8 inch front and 9 inch rear. I was thinking of putting the 245/50/16 on the front and 255/50/16 on the rears. The 255 is about an inch wider...than the 245. I think they will fill up the wheel wells better

On the platinum pie pans, are both wheels 8" (225's)?
