A little different approach. Used marine vinyl over a box 2x4 frame covered in marine plywood It took a few tries with a cardboard template to get the radius curves right.

Has anybody just covered the place of the rear seats and the box with carpet "à la 911 RS"?

Now that would be a low cost rear seat delete.

I guess I have more "in progress" pics than finished product.
After the job was complete I wished that I had put a lip between the carpet and the vinyl to help keep anything that I am hauling (groceries, coolers) in the rear area. I anticipate adding to it as time goes along.

Well, I'm more interested in lightweight than anything else

I have thought about this configuration for subs. Care to elaborate on your process or construction?

I just scored a gray set of bins for less than $60 shipped on eBay. I shall save them for a rainy day...

I still would love to do one of these deletes. After my daughter fit in the back of one the seats, I don't think I will. It's already a child's seat.

If someone is custom building a rear seat delete I would encourage you to consider the angle of the passenger seat in full recline. The wifey has mentioned that she would like to recline further. And by mentioned, I mean Everytime she gets in the car

I will need to fix that issue or just start buying the stuff to recover the original pcs.

I am working on an approach more similar to 928cs (Samuels) lightweight concept as my 90 GT outlaw has been relieved of its seats, belts, rear AC, speakers, rear wiper, hatch release, spare tire, tools, visors, quarter panel leather and all but the seat bottoms. No pictures yet but I'll post some when I make progress...

My search is on for a way to smooth the contours of the stamped wheel well metal and cover with thin/stretchy material for a finished look without the weight of stereo/boxes/heavy soundproofing.

Suggestions on lightweight materials are welcome!
