Default Slow ignition, rough idel ... And stall.

My 1987 s4 has this problem.
I wouder if i should start by replacing some relays or deoxit some fuses... But i dont know were to start.
The car has only 72000km and is in excellent shape, on porsche dealer standards.
I want it to be relayable.
Thanks

It is never a bad idea to start with cleaning your grounds, CE panel, and any other electrical connectors.

Then see what symptoms you still have.

Similar issues here. Looks like it may be a bad coil wire to distributer cap. the Beru connector unscrew and you may want to check the resistance on your ignition wires.

Yes to the 2 above. First optimize the simple electricals for if it is something else, you won't really know unless the electricals are excluded first. An important ground to check is the black wire from the Left coil to the engine block up front. Check/service your grounds, coil wires/ignition wires to plugs, distributor cap first. I attached something regarding ground point location in your headlight thread. How are your spark plug wires - cracked, old ?

Your thread title says slow ignition, rough idle, and stalling. Are these the problems you're facing? Based on that description alone, I'd check the flexplate and crank end play.

Excellent point.
He was having some other ground problems in another thread, but this needs to be considered.

If you do your own work, here is a good link for flexplate/end play check.
Should also read New Visitor thread at top of page for information on this (under TBF), and other things.

The amount of cleaning w/ a brass brush really is dependent on how bad the grounds are. If you poke around on RL, you see some really bad ones that are all rusted over which require a lot of cleaning, versus ones that look OK.

Clean 'em up, give a few shots of Deoxit and you are done. Piece of cake, although a couple of them are hard to get to.

I've got a colllection of Ground-related posts in my thread here. They have good pics in them, and there should be no need for you to rely on your mechanic to do them, unless you want to.

Regarding the flex plate - I guess that depends on how proficient your mechanic is at working on 928s. Here, too, there are a lot of threads on this topic and with all the pics and instructions on them, you might be able to do it yourself.

Dwayne's Garage has an excellent write-up on it.
