So tonight while at a gas station on the north side of Indianapolis , this older well dressed man starts asking about my Porsche, he goes on about how nice it looks, he seems astonished that it is 30 years old, he even walks around it, then asks if it's for sale.
I tell him it's not for sale, but there are much nicer ones out there that are for sale. I thanked him for the complements.
Then He said how about 15K?, I said no, you can find a nicer one than this for 15., mine still needs some stuff done to it.
Made me feel good though.

I love the high offer conversations. Something about saying "No" to someone offering the moon is satisfying. Must make them think, "what does he have there???"

About 4 years ago late at night I was parked under a light pole in a mostly empty Walmart parking lot with my guards red 88 S4 that I had just finished polish and waxing the paint. Not a very good area in Arlington. I was standing next to the car and inspecting the paint when I noticed 4 guys walking towards my car. One of them yelled "MAN IS THAT A RED FOWRRARI?" as they got closer one of them replied "Nah man that's a Porsh, that's the Scarface car man, that's the Scarface car... HEY nice car man".
They changed direction and walked towards the Walmart entrance.

I was more shocked that they recognized it as the Scarface car than originally thinking it was a red Ferrari.

Took the 89 to a Styx concert, parked it a local parckade. One of the parking attendants directed me to a very nice wide parking spot with a wall on ones side.

I got out and thanked him, his response was nice car.

Came out after the concert and there were 3 parking cones placed in front of the car. Clearly the gut was going to do everything he could to keep the car safe.

I get called tony montana all the time by the same types of people. that was funny to me. couldnt believe they recognized it from the movie. and then a different demographic calls it the risky business car. glad to know all types know it for different reasons.

So I have had the car since last October and have been working on it as time & money permits. After each session I always take it out and push it harder and harder but this this past weekend was the first time I really left my foot in it and DROVE the car.

Background…we had people coming over for the SB game, so I ran up the street to the local meat market, as I am waiting for my order to packaged up the young girl behind the counter was asking about the car, the owner of the market made the comment to the young lady,” that is still one of fastest production cars ever,” to which I smiled. He asked how much HP does it have, I responded with.” 320HP, really not huge by today’s standards. “

To that I hear from beside me, “ that’s it! My SUV has nearly 500HP and the young man laughs as he finishes up paying.” Insulted I was, however I took the hi ground, thanked the owner paid and left.

As I leave I see the young man getting into a new Grand Cherokee SRT, all tinted out, black on black, red calipers, it was obvious he was very proud of his SUV. Intrigued, I hustle into the car and fired her up, maneuver directly behind the SRT as we are both exiting the parking lot onto a 4 lane local parkway road, two lanes in each direction separated by plush green space in the middle.

As we pull out I see his exhaust puff, and hear the tires squeal, I anticipated this little run that I allowed myself to be goateed into, as such, I was standing on the accelerator damn near the same time he did. He took the inside lane (right lane) and was slowly pulling away, at about 4k RPMs I noticed he no longer was pulling and I maintained about 3 car lengths behind him in the outside lane as she jumped into 2nd, a strong curve to the right was quickly approaching and he started moving into my outer lane, I backed off the accelerator a touch as that 3 car gap was getting smaller, he continued to move into my lane, and I though to myself well lets see what she can do, mashed it back to the floor slide to the inside lane and pasted the SRT effortlessly, thus creating a nice 5-6 car gap for him to look at, as the road straightened out and I see the SRT shrinking in my RVM, I look down and see I am more than 3Xs the posted limit and shut her down happily.

While I don’t often drive in this way and for me the car has always been about the look and uniqueness, this was the first time I was really impressed with the performance side of the car. Just prior to moving to the inside lane and holding it to the floor, I felt like the car was asking for more, like when you are walking you dog and she keeps looking back at you like, come on lets go faster.

SRT is 6.4-liter HEMI creating 470HP, 8 speed transmission, specs 0-60 4.8sec & 160MPH top speed.

and 1700 extra pounds of road-hugging weight. Stratospheric hp is nice, but you need it with a curb weight of 5100 lbs. I wonder how the brakes are on an SRT after the 3rd hard stop?

I had our 928s parked in the driveway here in Indiana.

Am standing outside.
Up the driveway rolls a grey Cayenne turbo.
Guy rolls down the window, says "welcome to the neighborhood, saw the 928's and told my wife you couldn't be all bad."

So I say something nice about the Cayenne, and then ask if he knows much about the old 928s. He says, sure, I've got a silver 87, see it? Right across the street through the trees".

I look, and sure enough!

That was unexpected and totally cool.

Moved 900 miles and unwittingly bought a house exactly across the street from another 928 guy.
What were the odds of that?

I was in the garden trying to make it look less untidy, when the police arrive. They'd had a report of a suspicious person standing in my garden and looking at my car in the (open) garage. Someone, who can't live that close (we've owned the house for 5 years), had seen me in my garden looking at my 928 and called the police.

It's doubtful that car thieves find wellies practical though. I can't look rich enough for the car, or the neighbourhood, as I don't have a team of gardeners. Virtually every other house has a 911 for the weekend, so I do raise the taste level, IMO

My friend colleague finally found a great piece ('89 S4) with just 53K miles on it.
Two days after having paid down the first 25% he got laid off work, panicked, fell ill.
Being asked to help him, I financed the rest depicting that I would buy, import and garage the car until he got back on his feet. This was some 3 years ago. He simply vanished, not even mail or phone replies.
I got stuck with one of the most iconic and head turning cars around, improving it continually, installing a fantastic 12-channel audio system (Becker Indianapolis Pro based) and enjoying it as a simply great hobby young timer. Very nice pairing with my 993 turbo in the garage too!
