Default Motronic Editor v2.2

In a former life, I worked with a few guys on the Pelican 911 forum to develop a Windows Application which would allow graphical editing of 911 and 964 fuel and timing maps. it was a pretty handy tool but time moved on and as I moved further and further away from developing Windows software I abandoned development. Last year while I was having trouble with my 911's Motronic, I contacted Steve at 911chips.com who said that he still used my software and would love to see it expanded and some of the v2.1 bugs fixed. Last night I finally got my development environment in order and fixed a few bugs, I'll be posting it again after I get some feedback from Steve as to whether I stomped the v2.1 bugs.

I would of course like to expand the software to support the 928, does anyone have any stock (or other) .BIN files for the 928 that they can send me to experiment with? Ideally, I'll need the info that goes with them, especially the part number of the ROM that the .bin came from.

I'll post a download link for Rennlist forum users once I know I have a stable version. Previously I released a free 60 day version and sold a consumer version. Both of these allowed editing of everything except the Rev limiter and Map Axis values. For shops and tuners, I released a Pro version which allowed editing of the Rev limiter and Axis values. People who helped out rode for free. I'll likely come up with some similar free/consumer/pro pricing structure if I decide to offer the software to the public again, but if anyone would like to get involved with the effort we'll at least take it as far as it can go, which I caution could be nowhere.

The MAIN limitations that I ran into with this software in the past is the additional complications of newer cars. 911/964 bins are retardedly simple. They typically have two sets of maps, one set for fuel and one set for timing. The sets consist of linear maps for both idle and WOT, and a two-dimensional map for everything in between. Once I started messing with 944's there were more maps, and a lot more sensor inputs, I didn't own a 944 and I was developing for primarily a 911 audience so I didn't really pursue it much further. Additionally, BMW maps were usually checksummed and wouldn't even run if modified w/o calculating the proper checksum. Oddly my requests to Bosch went unanswered if you can believe that I've been out of this pursuit for 10 years now, I"m sure a lot of internals have been figured out (and I'll research as I go) but I'm looking for help from the chip-tuning braintrust.

I have a chip reader/burner so if anyone can provide chips but not .bins, I'll make sure the ROMs get back to you. A final note: PLEASE be respectful of the IP of the tuner community and don't post their .BINs to the forum. From my dealings with Steve at 911Chips (who has seen his images end up on Ebay), I know how much effort goes into developing each tune, and how specific each is to a particular configuration. It sucks to have your ideas/work stolen, even worse when someone tries to profit off of them.

This could be an alternative Sharktuner now that I think about it. The biggest difference is you burn your own prom rather than attaching cables to an already modified LH and EZK for tuning on the fly.

And the advantage to that would be? You would have a fixed map rather then being able to change it to accommodate future upgrades.

None if you are the lay person. We don't have the ability to dyno tune right after burning the prom unless you are best friends with a shop owner or fraternizing with his daughter (no comment it was a long time ago). It is not practical to burn a chip, pop it in the car, dyno it only to find out the mixtures are wrong at certain engine loads.

It is an alternative though for those with L-Jetronic and not LH, that is if he decides to market this product to the 16-valve guys. Rogue Tuning did this with the 944 NA chips.

I didn't realize the L-jetronic even had a removable chip, I thought they were limited to rising rate fuel regs and such for any adjustments.

It is possible to replace/upgrade PROMs. Talk to Rogue_Ant in the 944 forum. He is on here daily. I had asked him awhile back about updates for 16v 928 cars and he was mulling it over.

For the curious: download attached, unzip contents to any folder, and run the .exe

The evaluation should automatically register, if not, try Ctrl-Shift-R once program is loaded

additional functionality on context sensitive menus accessed via right-click (map axis, file contents, etc).

Sounds like the map locations for 928 are well known, if anyone cares to share the addresses I'll create a .spc file.

The executable was missing some libraries, I've added them to the attached (updated) zip file.

Hi,

That is very cool of you !

I have a 1990 964 and I'd like to check/modify the fuel map according to the addition of a MAF sensor and bigger air filter + Faster exhaust.

I have an Innovate LM2 wide band O2 sensor/reader and I've modified fuel maps on Buells motorcycle and adapted fuel maps with powercommander on various bikes a well.
I've also tuned a 4 cylinder Zetec engine managed with an Emerald unit and ITBs, so I'm quite familiar with the general process.

I might have to help a friend with his 993 as well.

I downloaded your zip and will have a look at it right away.

Do you know where I can buy blank chips and a chip reader/burner for motronics ?

Thanks a lot !

Default Registration file

I've had a couple of requests for a new demo registration file, unfortunately I've been really busy this year between Porsche projects and my day job. Please find the file attached.

Unzip, copy the .ini file into your program folder and start the program from a run dialog (Win-R) or from a command line with a "/r" switch to force it to register. ie

"c:\Program Files (x86)\Atlantis\Motronic\MotronicEditorV2.exe" /r

Next time I fire up my old 32-bit development vm I'll see what I can do about removing the time limitation or at least extending it. --Marc
