Radio 928 S4
Sorry if this is redundant and I've missed an existing thread. I'm about to buy an 89 S4. Any recomendations on upgraded stereo head units with blu tooth etc that match original look?

Personally, I'm holding out for the Porsche Classic Navi Radio which is supposed to be released in the next 21 days; if you believe the 1st Qtr 2016 date. You can read more here:
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...ics-radio.html
You could buy the euro version now, but no one knows if the North America maps will work on it (once they're released.) Both the US and Euro version are not cheap.
Anyway, just a couple options...

On my '83, I went nuts and installed a single-DIN unit with:
Bluetooth
Rear view (camera on license plate frame)
GPS
SEVEN INCH screen (slides out), touchscreen
Built-in mic
XM/Sirius
Cost of the Pyle head and camera was under $200 from Amazon. Shipped.
Works like a charm in every respect, though it certainly doesn't look retro.

I have a Nakamichi CD500 (PO), which I think fits in well. It doesn't have Bluetooth though. I wouldn't go for the Porsche unit - it's non-original, expensive (I assume) and, frankly, doesn't look that good to me. I would make sure to have a USB port (mine is on the cigarette lighter) to power a mobile phone / tablet - they will do most of the (non-audio?) head-unit functions better and are more easily upgraded.
Do you have newer speakers and amplification? Thanks to the PO, and an added (spare wheel) sub, mine really rocks. I will go deaf before it distorts.

P.S. *If* a proper PPI checks-out, buy it. You have the master of 928s in Anaheim (Precision Motorwerks) - I drive down from Northern California to ensure that mine is properly cared-for. Buy, and enjoy.

The 90s area Porsche CD head units were generally designed to control changers; simple and easy to add bluetooth integration in place of the changer. So you get one cd in dash and bluetooth (music and phone). Plenty of threads here and elsewhere on that setup. Closest you can get to something modern but fully aesthetically correct. Personally I think that's the best compromise between form and function.
Find them here: http://www.swstereo.com/ or on eBay.
I bought a modern blackface Blaupunkt (Toronto, I think) because the Porsche cd option didn't occur to me in time, nor did I discover it when researching.
There is also a Continental head unit that looks pretty good. Search here will turn up pics and links.
Regarding the porsche classic radio: the European fm spectrum is slightly different than the U.S. (different channel spacing), I also have a strong feeling the U.S version uses XM sat for traffic. So one might have more than map issues to deal with using the euro version here. I would research that more carefully before going that route.
Also, I believe you will find the Porsche classic radio needs a 928-specific trim plate. Not an issue, other than its a Porsche-priced piece of low volume plastic you have to buy incremental to the radio. Cool unit though. Good solution if you don't mind spending well north of $1000. I may one day. But if you like that solution, wait a month or so for the U.S. version.
