There is also theoretical possibility some other moderator acted on his own. If this is the case then that mod must be found and burned alive.

I think what also adds confusion/frustration to those that are upset is the term "affiliation". This implies not simply knowing the seller of the car but that there could possibly be financial gain to the poster. However since their is no way for the moderators to know whether or not someone is posting for financial gain or just helping out a friend in need they just delete it. In the meantime those that may be getting a cut of the sale only have to post "no affiliation" and the thread lives. IMO the intent of the rule only actually blocks the honest people who really have nothing financialy to gain and doesn't do a whole lot to stop the original intent.
I think a good compromise is that members should be able to post, say 1-2, affiliated cars for sale a year as long as they have no financial gain. They can say "affiliation but no skin in the game" or something similar.
As a newb to Rennlist I came here to learn about the 928 because I wanted to buy my first one this year. If members are posting affiliated cars that adds a lot more confidence to the prospective buyer than some random CL ad I could of googled myself.

This is starting to sound like an hoa meeting.

If I were a prospective buyer, I would prefer to know that someone is familiar with the car. Maybe the definition of "affiliation" is at issue. Does it REALLY mean you can't know the person? In any way? Or is it intended to mean there is some financial or similar reason to back the sale? I can understand a prohibition on someone posting up a for sale ad for someone else, claiming to know the car, and getting a kickback. Or at least, it makes sense to not want that to happen...pretty easy to get around, so enforcing stuff as was done here is pretty pointless.
Can the OP just repost the car and say "No Affiliation?" If not, I'd be happy to post it up again if he wants to send me the details.

This thread has been nagging at me since I read it so I went back to the "New Visitor" Stickie to find the rules about buying and selling. I read the terms of Service as well as Charter and then went to Page 2 as advised to get additional information. That post is below.
POSTING PARTS/CARS FOR SALE OR PARTS/CARS WANTED
If you want to post 928-related items or cars for sale here, or request parts or cars wanted to buy, you MUST be a paid Rennlist Member.
Please include a detailed description and the asking price in all For Sale posts - every item, every time.
Any 'For Sale' and 'Parts Wanted' posts by non-members, or by Members with no asking price, "Best Offer", "Make an Offer", "Highest Offer over $xx", "Email for Details and Price", etc. will be removed without notice.
Posting Links to eBay Auctions
If you want to post your ebay link here, post a reasonable Buy it Now (BIN) price that you will sell it for.
If you get a taker here, you must end the auction early and sell it to the Rennlister at the BIN price.
Membership Has Its Benefits
OK, so you've paid for Membership and want to sell something. Great. While not mandatory, it is recommened that you list a discount for paid Members, or an additional 'fee' for sales to non-Members. You've contributed by joining, why shouldn't they in order to partake of offers presented on Rennlist.
UNSOLICITED PARTS SALES - BEWARE!
From time to time we encounter individuals who troll the forums looking to sell parts. Be advised that we support our paid Sponsors, and hope you will too.
Unsolicited private sales are NOT in any way endorsed or authorized by Rennlist. and as such, Rennlist may not be able to provide assistance in resolving any disputes. Even paid Members that approach you should be dealt with warily unless you are sure they have a solid reputation.
If you are ever approached with parts for sale via email or PM - by a Member or non-Member - please contact the forum Moderator for guidance before proceeding: Send a PM to the Moderator

So nothing there about posting an item for sale on Rennlist for a friend. I remember the price was listed so that was covered and according to Cosmo's Avatar he is a paid member. Maybe the Charter will tell us something since it was just mentioned above and referenced Article #7.
7. Rennlist will accept occasional commercial postings (not more than twice per month) to the general Rennlist e-mail discussion lists providing that they are short (25 lines or less). The Rennlist Forums will not accept any commercial postings without a Rennlist Sponsorship and/or Membership or prior consent of the Rennlist Administrator(s), and as a Member/Sponsor, limited to two Rennlist Forum threads per month. Commercial’ postings are defined as those made by vendors with the intent to promote or sell goods or services. If you post as a commercial vendor/business more then twice per month, you will be contacted off the list by the Administrator and could be asked to take a three week “vacation” from Rennlist – should you object, the Administrator will be more then willing to help you “go on vacation” for that time period.
So Cosmo wasn't a vendor by charter definitions for this post. I didn't find two other posts in the same month where he was acting as a commercial business / vendor so that's not it either. It could have been that the post was more than 25 lines but it has been deleted so can't tell. Also the reason given was because someone complained about him posting for a friend.
Let's move along to any other charter articles that address buying or selling and here we come along to Article #12. (below)
12. Rennlist will also accept non-commercial “for sale” or “wanted” postings to all Rennlist E-mail lists only, providing that these postings are not too repetitive. “Repetitive” means posting items for sale more than twice a week or more than four times in one month. These “for sale” or “wanted” posts should be limited to 40 lines or less. On the Rennlist Forums – similar postings will only be permitted if the author is a paid Rennlist Member in good standing. Others will be deleted without notice.
I believe this to be the appropriate charter article and again there is no mention about posting "for sale" or "wanted" adds for friends. It simply says you can't do it more that twice a week, must be 40 lines or less and is "permitted if the author is a paid Rennlist Member in good standing." Again the post was deleted so I can't see if it exceeded 40 lines but since there was another reason given we will move along to the other stipulations. It would seem to come down to whether Cosmo was the author, is a paid member and in "good standing". We have already determined he is the author and is a paid member. That only leaves us with whether or not he is a member in good standing. While I haven't met him he seems like a stand up guy trying to help a buddy and he hasn't been banished so will say his status is in good standing.
So what was the reason why the post was deleted again??

So...this probably means the duel to the death, stoning (nobody really mention this one, just thought I'd throw it in for good measure), burned alive thingy is canceled.
There goes the weekend...guess I'll have to just work on the car now.
Please keep me in the loop of any changes.
Brian.
