928 GT Issues

928 GT Issues
Hi guys,
I've recently bought my first 928 and upon closer inspection have noticed a couple issues I need to address.
1. The front grill (in front of the radiator) has the vents that look like they are designed to open and close. I noticed that the linkage rod isn't connected at one end. You'll see in the attached photo the bottom of the linkage is connected, but the top isn't. I couldn't easily tell what this is supposed to connect to.
2. Under the front, driver's side of the car there is a hose that is all crushed and needs replacing. I can't seem to find the part or number in the parts catalog. it looks a lot like a heater hose in the air cooled 911s.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dustin

The top of the linkage connects to the motor - the large black cylinder in the picture. If you remove the top part, it is a rubber cap, then you'll see a white ****. You can turn the **** to manually to adjust the linkage. If everything is connected and working as it should, the flaps are closed at start to help warm up the engine, and open to different angles depending on the cooling water temp and speed. There is a procedure to test, set and adjust the flaps. Some say leave it open since it can be a headache and doesn't bring much, purist like to have it in working order.
Second question, can you post a pic of the crushed hose?

Welcome aboard Dustin. As mentioned, your alternator has a cooling hose that also contains a sensor for ambient temperature used by the air conditioner. So that hose (and the sensor) are important to care for. Roger at 928srus can hook you up with replacement hose. Actually one of the early fixes I did on my car.

Awesome, thank you everyone. I'll take a look tonight and get this sorted. My AC hasn't been blowing cold air so this could be related to the hose as well from the sounds of it.

Unless you're going to run the car in the winter and you live in a place that sees freezing temperatures, I'd remove the flaps and motor altogether. Even when fully open they restrict a fair bit of air flow to the radiator.
Need to ses pics of the hose.

If it's the alternator cooling hose, it's #22 on Illustration 901-05 in your PET. Unfortunately, it won't fix your HVAC issues. The alternator hose runs into the driver's side wheelwell and just sucks ambient air.

Sorry for the delay. I had to find time to get the car jacked up and get a photo under it. Here is a picture. You can see that the hose is currently disconnected.
Thanks

Great, I'll order a new one today. It's hard to tell from the PET diagram. Does the outer sensor #23 go over the hose or does the hose slide over it? I should check to even make sure it is there.

Agreed that it's not a great sketch, but if you're looking for #23, it's in the wheelwell at the other end of that hose.
