Default SHARKTUNER computer

I would like to get a small computer dedicated to the Shartuner and Sharlplotter. Using my full size work laptop has several drawbacks. One being the whining I get from my navigator when she has to keep it on her lap for any extended time. Any recommendations?

I use an Asus netbook 1005 for ST2 running Win7- still works well after some 5 plus years.

ST2 will not challenge any modern computer.

I think a Microsoft Surface would work well for this. I have the pro version and it's awesome.

Find on Ebay an old IBM Thinkpad T61.

Rock hard laptop.

Buy a new battery for it, put in an SSD, upgrade the bios and upgrade to a Penryn CPU...and you have an incredibly powerful $40 laptop, that is nearly indestructable.

Hard to beat the old hardcore Thinkpads. For the car environment, hard to hurt it. And if you do, it's another $40 on Ebay.

Plus, you can find a IBM Thinkpad charger nearly anywhere, everywhere, they were in such high use and so generic to the product.

Mine upgraded itself to Windows10, and yannow, it's actually still a usable laptop in this config.

Any/all of the above, any sort of windows computer will work, XP or newer. You can also stash the laptop and use a phone or tablet as a "remote desktop" to keep an eye on it while logging.

I am currently using a Dell Venue Pro 8" Tablet running Windows 8.1. It's a small and light unit. The only problem is Bill sometimes can't get his fingers to hit the Map cells you's aiming for. I've also used a Fujitsu T2010, an old 12" convertible (laptop/tablet) running Windows 7, and an older Fujitsu ST4121 Windows XP tablet. Bill has also used his small ACER notebook. So it seems to work on a variety of smaller Windows hardware.

Paging Jarrod. Jarrod, your attention please.

I'm using a Toshiba Satellite and very happy with it, but it is larger than what Jarrod is using.

Almost any Win box will work. It sounds like the challenge is finding one that the navigator will tolerate on her lap for any extended period. The answer may be "F: None of the Above!". Just sayin'...

a bit of duct tape and she would not worry about the laptop sliding off...and a smaller amount would quiet the whining.

I'm running an Acer Aspire One that's at least a couple of years old. Think it's a 10.5" screen, wish it was slightly larger. Picked it up new on Amazon, it was about $275, IIRC. Works great and the color even matches my car.

We've got really old Compaq Evo 610s for this (two). They have US spec Windows XP and Techedge, ST2, Sharkplotter + Jenniken's sw installed - all work nicely and laptop is not a a power hungry so we can feed it from car via a converter.

George,

I am surprised Bill can even get into the passenger seat yet alone punch the correct cell!

Clearly you were inspired by the "Back to the future" trilogy- a few more mph and a gizmo to set the required time and date and you will be in the 22nd century I reckon.
