Option code X38 - wider front fenders
My understanding is that this option was only available on ROW GTS cars at the latter stages of production. I'm wondering if anyone here knows exactly how this option modified the front fenders? Any data on how many cars were so equipped?
All input greatly appreciated.

it was an add on part held on by adhesive and was mostly for the Japanese market

Simple little eyebrows...to better cover the tires per Japanese requirements. Was not flairs for wider tires and wheels. Not very attractive either. Tires, wheels, and track are unchanged.

Thank you for the replies. Interestingly, the car that brought me here with this question is a German-delivered (C00) car, still with its original owner (i.e. It has never been to Japan). It doesn't have these eyebrows and while I haven't measured the front fenders, to the naked eye they do appear wider than normal. X38 is on the Kardex, original invoice and Certificate of Authenticity, so clearly how the car left the factory.
A bit of a mystery at the moment.

Yes, the X38 option is not the Japanese stick-on/mudflap stuff. It's the combination of flared front fenders (in metal) with 8" front wheels. There are 66 cars with the X38 option, 1 of which is the last listed '95 U.S. GTS. All the rest are German market cars, mostly 94s, with 4 '93s and 4 '95s list. Almost all are automatic tranny cars and heavily optioned, of course.
I'd be interested to know the part numbers off the front wheels, if they're still with the car. Not aware of any 8" Cup 2's, unless there was some weird 993 Cup 2 winter wheel with high offsets that they commandeered for these 928s (?)

Rob, that is hugely helpful, thank you. I will check the wheels and let you know about that.
Of the 66 cars with this option, can you provide a breakdown of automatic vs. manual transmissions?

So what have we learned from this thread? Internet is full of faulty information (for those who didn't already know).
And hopefully it might encourage people who see this to think twice before posting information without being sure it is correct.

If only Rob had posted this thread wouldn't have be informed by both flared fender options. Since the OP contained contradictory information either answer could have been correct depending upon how the OP was deconflicted.

Sorry, no. Subject says X38. X38 could not have been anything else that what it is, what Rob said.

Keep bumping up these threads until Rob responds?
I think everyone with internet access is fully aware of this.
How do you know they were not sure? Many times people do not know what they do not know, that is a key part of knowing but first you have to know for sure?
Small monkey wrench in your quest, Rob has been wrong before. Granted it doesn't happen often.
The last time it happened was during a red moon on the 4th week of the witching cycle. Simultaneously as the universe shuttered from the shock of Rob's incorrect post, an Indonesian child stubbed his tow on a street sign on his way to work.
That's the beauty of internet forums.
Even if Rob had posted first and only Rob had posted, you would still have people walking away confusing the two. So now we have a thread specifically showing both which will cut down on the number of people being confused.

Since the Japanese flares were mentioned let me add this. They are fiberglass and are very thin, almost sub standard quality like the windshield wiper motor cover. When I worked on one I thought they were some aftermarket parts made for the Japanese market.

It says they are steel. Which is less cool then aluminum.
