My wipers are totally dead--again. The windshield washer part works...but the wipers don't move. When I move the wiper switch/stalk, I get a click...but nothing else.

Is it the wiper relay? How can I tell? Is there a way to "jumper" the relay, like you can do to the DME relay? I would hate to replace the motor (I'll owe George $50 if I keep it) if all I need is the relay.

Ideas?

If the wipers were running really slow before this happened it could be the wiper motor. Check the fuse for the wipers. If it's blown then start thinking motor.

Sorry, the wipers were one of the few areas I didnt have issues with.

I have the opposite problem, if I plug the wiper (delay) relay in they run all the time. They work fine with the relay out but will not return to the down position.

Minor repare job number ten thousand and one.

Pisses me off! There are '67 Mustangs running with the original wiper motor...I've never heard of a car having wiper problems before. WTF??

If the fuse ISN'T blown, can I assume it's NOT the motor?? I'll try pulling the relay and see if the wipers start up again.

At least the Mullet isn't a high-maint. nightmare Tom!

Cool Marc. I assume if I pull out the relay, and I get some life from the wiper motor...then I'll be emailing you a part number! If not, I'll have to pay someone to put in George's (Emmily's Granny) used motor.

I would think non-functioning wipers are a safety recall type deal!? The dealer should fix it for free!

67 mustang, heck i have a 68 firebird that was restored and still has the original wiper motor, the original convertible top motor, the original (no make that second) owner.

Wiper motor is easy to change. You will need the usual 10mm socket, take the bolt off of the motor shaft and undo the 3 bolts that hold it to the holder and un-plug. If anyone else needs a relay or wiper motor, let me know. I have 2 relays and one motor. All tested and working good.

After you get the cover off, the motor takes about 10 minuted to take out. It's really easy, do it your self.

I was told it was a 2 hour PITA job...something about removing the heater cowling? I think the earlier cars are easier...?

That's what I'm saying Tom! Bad enough we have to worry about belts, oil cooler seals, sunroof gears, etc. Wiper motors too??

FWIW, it may not be the wiper motor, but the switch itself. I have a similar situation in the S2 where the wipers go dead when I pull back the switch stalk to squirt with the washers. Then they won't wipe unless I move turn the stalk up, which is when they refuse to fully park when I move the stalk to the off position.

I asked on here a few months back and was suggested the relay. Replaced it with a new one (pricy, too) but to no avail. In my case, I believe the problem is the switch itself, and after years of use and contamination the contacts aren't working like they should.

Unfortunately, on the late cars the switch is part of a complete 3-stalk assembly, including turn signal, wiper and cruise control. I picked up a really clean used one off eBay for very little money and hope it solves the problem.

Just the same, let us know what you find.
