91 944S2
Was speaking to local indy shop today and owner mentioned he was selling his '91 944 S2 for a reasonable price (at least IMO). Have not had a chance to see/drive it yet but owner is a very reputable indy, does a lot of work with local PCA chapter.
I've been wanting to get more active in HPDEs and track days. Do you think this is a good platform for this use case? Main concern is durability/maintenance.

Less complexity than the 944T and without the rarity of the 968.

The 944 S2 is a fun car for the track but you'll find the stock suspension is quite soft. Nevertheless it does a good job and is certainly fun as I drove mine in PCA DE quite a few times. You really need to keep an eye on the engine oil level between runs as one of my friends who tracked his S2 frequently blew the engine when he lost oil pressure due to low oil level. He also trashed the trans when the differential broke. Have fun.

Last year I refreshed my suspension to Bilstein B6 and it made a huge difference. I also had to replace my clutch (was on the original after 103k miles!) and serviced the brakes.
My first trackday was brilliant, so much fun and the car was almost perfect. On the longer straights was not as quick as more modern cars but rest of the time didn't skip a beat. Hard to believe that a 30 year car could perform so well.
