944 DME ingition map stock? A
Hello, I have an 84 944 that I race in 944 Spec with NASA in SoCal.
I can swap ECUs to any year but it has to be stock. I'm wondering if the ignition maps are the same in all 8v USA ECUs? I would would guess the maps maybe got a little more conservative as the compression went up later in the years but I can't find any info.
thanks!

I am not sure the answer to your question but have you thought about running a solid state DME? F9tech makes a 944Spec approved DME - much more reliable than the old analog units. Might be worth checking out - their DME appears to run a 1988 tune, meant for the higher compression motors. They may also know the differences between the pre 87 cars vs the post 87 cars in terms of ignition timing changes within the DME program and whether there were differences.

I also ran a "stock" 84 944 up here in Washington state. Back when I was into chipping the ECUs I discovered that the original one in my car had a socket in it.
I have a EPROM burner and uploaded a non-factory bin file to a new chip. No one ever knew...… and ran 108 octane gas.
Also I converted a ton of 944 ECUs using one of the boards from BMW unit soldered to the PORSCHE ECU. At one point every ECU produced for the 944 could be reprogrammed with the various bin files I have collected.
If you are using a ECU from a late model car make sure you match the AFM to it.
