The first (prototype) version for my Zeitronix display mounting bracket is finished! For the final version the USB panel will be better finished and color matched to the bracket/display.
We started out with these parts:
Had to modify the Zeitronix casing and create some brackets. One of the brackets incorporates an usb connection (for hooking up my laptop to the AugTronic ECU). The isn't enough space for adding an RS232 connection to hook up the Zeitronix driver to the laptop.
The readability and visibility is very good!

Call Mahle direct if you can, see if they still have the casting for the 104mm bore,(if 3.0 block) albeit in the rare turbo pistons that Porsche had made for the 968 turbos. The Ferrostan coating is no longer available but FerroPRINT coating is available for piston skirts that work in Alusil bores. FWIW, we measured the piston 5mm above the bottom skirt and used .0015" for bore machining and finishing. Great build thread, truly inspiring.
sorry, so you're doing a 2.8L and not a 3.0.

In Holland you can drive a pre 1988 car with a reduced road tax. This means I pay about $ 150,-- for a year in stead of about $ 750,--. However, you are not allowed to use the car (or have it parked on a public road) during December, January and February. The reason for this limitation is that the reduced road tax is only to be used for recreational road use. Someone driving a very old (dirty) car al year to get to work and back home again should pay full road tax.
It clearly is a no brainer for me, because I don't drive my 944 in poor weather conditions.
This is why I postponed some "things to do" up until now! The plans for this winter:
- Replace the "temporary" engine with a brand new engine (new block, new pistons, new con rods, new oil pan, ...)
- Make the bridge spoiler look good
- Replace the stock downpipe with a 3" downpipe
- Replace the stock front calipers with Big Reds or Big Blacks
The old engine will be used for a 924S (I still have to find). Therefore I have been a little bit easy with buying new parts I normally would not need for my 944. For example the exhaust. I have a 3" exhaust but with a non 3" connection to the stock downpipe. I could have bought the 3" downpipe with a 3" turbo downpipe adapter. In stead I ordered a complete (damper less) 3" exhaust with the correct connection to the downpipe. The old exhaust will be of use on the 924S.
Having a brand new block I think it was a nice touch to also get a new oil pan:
And put in the oil level sender and the black thingy:
Ordered a new oil thermostat as well for the oil filter console. The stock thermostat opens at 105 degrees Celsius and the one I've put in opens at 95 degrees Celsius.
And I also went for a new (stock) flywheel:
Will post more pictures as I progress. Still waiting for the Ishihara-Jonson crank scraper to arrive. Oh, and I was told that AugTronic ECU might have a brand new ECU very soon!

Porsche dealer. Not sure if any are still available.
I got a quote from a loom fabricator. He was able to make a new loom re-using a lot of the connectors and quotet me € 2000,--.
I've bought a brand new loom from Porsche for € 1200,--.
Spoiler:
The new engine will be ready very soon!

Found some time to upload the pictures and share them with you.
Have been spending a lot of late hours on getting the new engine into the engine bay. This time I choose to add components after installing the bare minimum into the engine bay. That worked great for me!
Installed a crank scraper:
I was able to slide the engine via the right wheel well into the engine bay. Used a lot of carton sheets on the floor to make the sliding easier:
I slightly modified the motor traverse. With the longer wire ends I was able to pick up the engine from the floor and hoist the engine to the correct height in one go.
Brand new oil pressure relief valve. Yes, I know. Way too expensive!
Found (some time ago) a new old stock cross over pipe:

First start tomorrow! Still have to modify the wastegate exit exhaust pipe because the stock wastegate exit exhaust pipe still won't fit in the LR 3" exhaust. I've seen complaints about this in post dating back to 2013! I have several options: 1) shorten the LR 3" wastegate tie-in pipe. 2) Make the stock wastegate pipe round (now it has a flat part which doesn't fit the LR exhaust. 3) Taking out a piece of exhaust out of the wastegate exhaust pipe (making sure the end of the pipe is round).
This is my third LR 3" exhaust pipe and I keep getting amazed by the way they fabricate those exhausts. They are all unique! No bung seems to be welded in the same place. And somehow the latest one I bought doesn't seem to clear the body as much as the previous two did.
