Default Called yesterday

I called and spoke to someone yesterday. He confirmed they are still waiting on hardware and estimates 5-6 weeks from now they will start taking orders.

He said the roofs were all manual. I have an electric roof on my 89 944. I will be able to drop the Saratoga top in and lock it in, correct?

thank you to the the efforts of the organizers for this! Can’t wait.

Interesting I believe the last batch was electric.

Manual only meaning we would need to convert to manual roof lock mechanisms? That’s a big problem for the majority of owners myself included.

Manual only would be a show-stopper for me. Zero chance I am converting my top to manual. If this is the case, Pilkington is making a mistake.

Either way I would get it, the reality that they aren’t made any more and last time the price was fantastic especially for the first batch orders it would be worth to get one just in case. I don’t mind switching to manual but I am one of those weirdo’s that less is best in the way of some electronics.

Didn’t mean to start a panic. As a disclaimer, I will say that the man I talked to said that the person in charge of the Saratoga orders had recently left the Classics division, and that he was now taking charge of the Saratoga orders. So it’s possible he didn’t know the difference between a manual and electric 944 roof, and he only meant to say that no electronics are included with the Saratoga roof. I asked if I could see pictures to confirm compatibility and he said he could send pics once they get the parts and start taking payments. So hopefully it will get clarified soon!

They sold lots of electric the prior time. Bet it is the same top. They said they found the tooling those years back ago, and they were electric.

Thanks I'm monitoring for when they're back live and selling. I too missed this first go around.

Converted to Manual a few years back so that works for me.

As one of the guys who was first in with Pilkington on this run... I've given up hope and purchased an original Saratoga. The director of the classics division left and he was the main contact I had. The sales team simply does not know what to do now since they have no supplier for hardware. The glass is the same regardless of manual/electric, but the mechanism seems to be the sticking point. The last batch had issues with the rear stands and that's why that hardware isn't going to be used in this batch. It was my understanding that manual latches were planned for this run.

I also have knowledge that another supplier is working on a completely new version of the glass and hardware. This person will be a Rennlist Sponsor when the time comes. I'll wait for him to post the details (once the tops are complete and tested for hardware reliability).

Thanks so much for this insight. Based on my last call to them, your prediction sounds spot on. Will sit tight and see what happens. Please let us know if you hear anything about the new version of the glass!

Too bad I let the original go with the last car.
