Default What exhaust should I fit on my 944 turbo!!!!

Hello Rennlist, I recently acquired a 1988 944 turbo and was looking to do an exhaust upgrade. I am leaning towards a cat-back, something with a deeper exhaust note but not too loud. Any recommendations?

I’m currently favoring the B&B cat back exhaust. (I can't find any good sound clips, does someone happen to have one installed that could send me a audio recording?)

Thanks.

The muffler does not affect smog it only changes the sound of the car. The cat affects emissions. My car had a cat delete as well but I had to go back to OEM for emissions. ):

Def go stainless steel it’s worth the extra few bucks it will last 20 years +
catback if running a stock smog car is great way to free up 10hp and louder note. Speedforce racing, fabspeed, Lindsey racing all sell good products in stock

If you had to rank in order? Experience with a particular model?

I have the fab speed cat back and every person that has ever heard my car thanks it sounds fabulous. From the interior I think it sounds pretty good. It’s kind a hard to make a four-cylinder turbo sound good anyway. Plus it did pass smog in California twice in the last two years.

Thanks

How big is the pipe end? Does it look decent? Got a link to the product?

Here's what's on my car. However I was simply the lucky recipient as the previous owner had it installed. I actually think all these exhaust systems are kinda pricy tho. I'll look to see which CAT is on my car since it's up on stands right now and will probably be up on stands in the future more times than I care to think about.

FABSPEED LINK

Thanks
Mike G.

I went with the Fabspeed 3" downpipe (factory is 2.5") and 200 cell cat (factory is 400 cell) in my '89 951, I'm happy with the setup, in my opinion it's not a significant up tick in sound, but is noticeable, as noted above, not easy to get big sound out of a 4 cylinder Turbo. Likely would need to add a sport muffler.

Congrats on your car.... The slippery slope is steep with the 951 - my advice would be to research future mods (if you plan to do them) and how the exhaust affects them.

I had the B&B exhaust on my 951 with minimal mods and I liked the sound but once I started to modify and increase power it was not sufficient. I went with the SFR 3" all the way through from turbo and have been happy. Dealing with SFR was difficult but that may have changed since.

I have a full turbo back Fabspeed on my car. Sounds good and not crazy loud. I managed to get it used on eBay for a steal though. The new prices are.....expensive.

Just got this in my email, 10% off Fabspeed on Pelican. https://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog...st_systems.htm
