Default Downpipe options

Hi All,

I'm looking for a 3" downpipe for a KKK #8 housing. What are the best options these days?

Thanks!

I Believe Lindsey has a nice option, If you get a straight 3" You will not be happy with the installation, The flange is SOOO big it hard to get a wrench on it, and some have Allen heads to combat this..
I think a 3" Right off the Turbo is not worth it.. The housing is SOOOO Tiny them you bolt on this monster pipe.. Doesn't have to be that way... For the first couple inches.. it can be smaller and Lindsey has one that is "Necked down" allowing for good fit then it goes up to 3" That's the way to go IMHO...

I fully agree with the above.
I have been running a full 3" Lindsey exhaust including downpipe for 10 years and I cannot say anything bad about it.
Their 3" downpipe alone is a good part and will fit perfectly a KKK turbine housing, although it makes sense to use it with a 3" exhaust all the way back.

Thanks for the replies! Lindsey's site didn't seem to mention if their downpipe is stainless. Can either of you comment on how it's holding up after a few years of use?

Just ceramic coat the downpipe.

Thats what I did with mine as it adds corrosion protection.

look at my build thread to see pics of the 2000F coating. Looks good and inexpensive.

Wow, a cribbing lift. I hope you're never tempted to practice your Jenga skills while working under the 951!

I was thinking ceramic coating might be the answer - hard to get over the fact that the Lindsey downpipe costs more than the Fabspeed one though - especially when the Fabspeed one is 304 stainless. On the other hand, the Fabspeed one is 2.75" rather than 3". Not sure how much of a difference that will really make.

I looked for your build thread but the only one that I could find is the RAGE2's old car one. I looked through it and didn't see any shots of the downpipe, did I just miss it?

I have the SFR 3" downpipe, which is a true 3" and the fit is decent, though it is quite tight, big pipe/small flange like @GPA951s mentioned. Comes with some Allen bolts that have the heads machined down!

Not sure if you bother with Facebook (if not I don't blame you), but there are some good new 951 products popping up on the "Premier 944 Turbo" group. One of the admins is @E-man930 and he makes a nice-looking downpipe option as well.

Do you still have your GTV6 by any chance? I guess my situation is opposite: my 951 is my heavily-modified track car (though still steerable), while my '81 GTV6 is my daily driver .

I was actually leaning towards the SFR downpipe, but The site seems to be down. I wasn't sure if they'd gone out of business or they just need to reboot the servers.

I'm on the Premier 944 Turbo Facepage group and I've been bugging E-man for a downpipe but his turbo business is booming and I don't know if he's gonna have time to make me a downpipe any time soon. Still really hoping that works out, but I thought I'd check around to see if there were any other options I hadn't considered.

I do still have the GTV6, but it's far from functional at the moment. Blew up the engine a few years ago and took the opportunity to test the whole car down and handle some rust. I've got the suspension and gearbox back in it now but otherwise it's just a shell on stands in my garage. It's slowly coming back together. I need to get it back on the road before too much longer though.. I've got a growing pile of go-fast bits for the 951 and I don't want to have two cars torn apart at the same time.

Wow. There's some pretty pictures in that thread! Where did you get that coating on the exhaust done?

I just got a Fabspeed. It doesn't measure 2.75, more like 2.6.

good to know.. still quite a bit larger than stock though, right? I can't remember what the stock one measures.
