Default Injectors for supercharged 944 with VEMS

Hi There,

I am looking for some plug and play injectors for a 1985.2 944 running VEMS standalone. It has a custom supercharger setup and we've realized were running out of fuel with the turbo injectors.

Do we need high or low Z?

I'd like to get around 45 lb/hr EV1 connector plug and play injectors to be used with a 3 bar FPR, can somebody point me in the right direction?

Car is making 186whp and 202 lb/ft at the rear wheels but the turbo injectors are at 98% duty cycle.

Thanks,

Darren

I would reach out to an outfit like Five0Motorsports or similar, they offer numerous injector options for all types of applications. Though VEMS is not exactly cutting-edge anymore, there is no logical reason to use low-Z injectors in 2022. Find some good, readily available high-Z injectors that meet your needs and have a known deadtime curve, and you will be good.

Stock 951 injectors with a 3bar fuel pressure support much more than the 186whp you are reporting.

Something else is going on. Fuel pump running out of flow? Restriction in lines between pump and fuel rail?

VEMS can do either high-Z or low-Z but you may as well just use high-Z to save the wiring/heat.

Bosch 0280155968
42lb @ 3 bar
EV1

I used these in my 210hp E85 2.9L 8v engine. they are everywhere, data is available, and they are relatively inexpensive.

Thanks Spencer. Of course those are hard to get in Canada, but the Siemens Deka injectors are easy to get, I just need to figure out a part number to order.

3 BAR FP and 98% Duty cycle on these injectors 0‑280‑150‑003, 36.15lb/hr is about 280 Crank HP. Wheel HP = 90%(CrankHP) = 250ish whp.

We ordered a nice set of 48 lb/hr injectors, we also have a 3 bar FPR if needed and have a dyno appt for next week. Time to find out if it's injectors or fuel pump.

Fuel pump was fine. New injectors are maxing out at the top end on a 2.5fpr. Car made 186 whp and 206 lb/ft torques.

next up will be the 3 bar FPR, hopefully injectors will calm down at that point.

Update: The car has been running all summer/fall and just completed the October PCA DE at Mosport and it absolutely flies. The SC setup has completely changed the car and my brother routinely hunts down GT3's and GT4's in the corners in the Instructor run group. Yes, It's that good.

The car still runs flawlessly and while it does see it's share of blowby oil in the catch can(minimal), it does not burn oil or puke black smoke from the tailpipe. The Air temps this past weekend had the car making some serious power and this whole experiment can be considered a success in my opinion. Very cool to see an NA 944 supercharged successfully and run hard at the track, and street driven, with no issues. While it was definitely not simple, it was definitely worth it.

Our little group at Mosport:

Sounds Great !
Try a Bosch 044 pump & set the injector deadtimes for your injectors.
Weird that injectors are maxing out. Maybe the correct deadtimes will help that.
Any pics or info on the SC setup ?
I put an Eaton M45 on my carb´d MGB, that made quite a difference !
That 1st drive on boost is such a reward !!

Do you know how to set the deadtimes in VEMS?

SC setup is an Eaton M90 from a Thunderbird Supercoupe, Front mount Intercooled and utilizing VEMS Standalone engine mgmt.

You´ll need the Injector specs and then go into Base Setup & select simplified in the inj settings.
Hit F1 & search google for vems injector deadtime.
It will change your ve table so best to do it earlier rather than later.

Changing dead time can also be used to fine tune AFRs if you seem to have run out of VE/AFR table adjustment.
Just don't go too crazy or the injectors start to act weird at low pulse widths.
