Wanted - Good bottom end
looking for a good short block but Ill purchase whole engine if i have to.
2.5L 8 valve preferred but will take a 16 valve as I believe the short block (block, crank, pistons and rods) should work with either heads.
Located in Indiana but will pay shipping cost if I cannot come get it myself.

Someone may be able to help you if more info is provided. "Bottom end" generally refers to crankshaft and surrounding parts. I gather instead you are looking for a short block, that generally means a block with the crank, rods and pistons installed. There are also many short block differences between early and late and turbo and 2 valve and 4 valve and 2.5 and 2.7 and 3.0. What are you trying to build? Including your location can also be helpful.

Okay, a turbo. Is it an 86 or a later one?
The pistons in the 2.5 turbo are dished and specific to the turbo application. Pistons from a 2 valve or 4 valve na will have a higher compression ratio than what is ideal for turbocharging. The valve reliefs in a 4 valve piston will not work with a 2 valve cylinder head.
Unfortunately, turbo engines with good bores are more difficult to find than na engines. Do you know the condition of the pistons in the current failed turbo engine?

its a 87 (late model)
Unknown on condition of internals. Going to start the removal process next week. Car runs. was low on oil when I got and smokes like crazy
You can tell the power loss in the engine off the immediately. I'm sure it spun a bearing but haven't gave a compression test which I know will fail.
Maybe I'm wrong but it was 2 quarts low when i topped it off and started

I've called Plyhammer and Dcauto with no luck at the moment. It seems my hands are tied with the Rennlist community. I've been in touch with a guy named Jay Rabbe if I'm not mistaken off another member who I've talked to about getting a short block from with 91k
waiting on shipping details from him. If anyone can vouch for him that would be great because I'm in the dark. Other than that I wouldn't mind picking up an addition block for future headaches.

Just for the record - turbo and 86+ NA engines use the same block, crank and in some cases rods. You have to drill and tap the turbo oil feed hole in the left balance shaft if you use an NA block.
NA blocks are usually in much better shape than the turbos and if the seller doesn't know that it can be used in a turbo build the price is usually cheaper!
