If we tell you we'll have to kill you! Some of us will post but it's probably a subject best left undisturbed. It seems to bring out the divisions of those of us that drive fast when the opportunity presents itself and those that only drive fast on closed loop venues. Either one has it's own merits, let's just say the 944 is an excellent car; the 951 with cheap as dirt mods is very fast!

the 87 plus cars speedo's go to 180... specs state that the car will do 155-162, depending on your search... with mods even more...

My speedo goes up to 180 MPH. If you look very carefully, there is a very subtle mark at about 157 MPH, which I thought might correspond to the maximum rated speed of the 951. However, the factory manual states maximum speeds of 144 MPH for the 944 n/a, 152 MPH for the 951, and 162 for the 951 "S".

So, I am at a loss for the reason for the mark. Any ideas?

I don't know how fast i can go, but last time that I went for a top speed run the needle went all the way past 160mph, and you dont believe me you can ask the 2003 M3 that was 3 car lengths behind me trying to catch up.

Man, the 951 I am looking into puts down 320hp to the wheels with 320torque, what will the increase in top end speed be? Not that I ever plan on taking it past 100, I'm a bit too wussy.

Top speed would not change as long as the transmission is 'stock'. Even if you have 400,500 or even 600whp top speed will remain the same due to the gear ratios revs etc. However, reaching top speed and the sheer acceleration would be greatly improved though.

If you desire to increase speed, you need to look at some $$$ invested into increasing the revs, replacing 5th gear ratio and having the peak power at peak rpms, generally speaking.

Amazing thing is, did you see the mileage on his car?
200K+ and it can pull 150 under redline...I bow down to the Gods of maintenance. Everytime I see that needle hugging the right it brings a tear to my eye.

I see I see. I'm not interested in a higher top end, really will never push the 150mph top end as in. Was just curious
