Default oil temp sender issue...?

Ive got a oil temp sender installed in my drain plug, well today I finally wired it (yes I know Im lazy as its been in the gauge pod for quite some time...)

Anyways, 3 wires. power/ground and the line to the sender. Powered it up and it shoots to the highest reading and sits at past 300 (140-300 gauge) whether the car is fired up or just in the "key on" position.

I reground it to a chassis bolt vs. a black ground wire it was on and no difference. Any thing else to look for, does this sound like a ground issue?

thanks...

hmm it sounds like some of the wires are crossed.

thanks, I double triple checked them and marked them for the very reason of coming back and not having these kind of issues. I will cross them and try...

thanks Duke.

Sam you may want to check for a short at the back of the gauge. Sometimes the connector lugs move so that two adjacent terminals become shorted.

I think I got it, Duke seemed to be right. Since the car doesnt have wheels on it I really didnt take it anywhere or let it run for long. Whats the temp a 951 should sit at once warm?

Rather than the gauge flying to 300, it kicked up a mm or 2, that makes more sense to me.

Thanks!!

Normal temp should read ~90C which is ~194F according to the manual.

Could be mistaken here, but that is the temp. the manual recomends for running operation.
