I was emailed back. The core charge is quoted at 700.00 + shipping and handling. Didn't notice that the auction is for the work and not the crank. That explains cost. Good catch. That was the issue I was really getting at. How can ya sell a 3.0 crank for 550.? You answered that.
On the issue of knife edging etc. I don't want a 2.8 like taht. I hink John has a real good point. If Porsche (Do they know anything about high performance, endurance engine design?) thought that a "knife edged" crank would give more power for the required endurance, they are almost certain to have tried it, and won with it. That's enough data for me.
