Default I love Christmas

Hey guys,

Any one that has seen past post of mine might know that I am in the middle of a big project that includes rebuilding my motor. Right now the block and most of its parts are at a local race shop boreing it out .5 mm for JE aluminum pistons and over sized rings.

For Christmas my father told me he would pay for the rest of the work being done to my car (including koni yellows, Lindsey 3" exhsaust, lindsey by-pass valve and much more.)

Well today i got my turbo back from the shop!!!@@!%#$^ Actualy the shop sent ours away and got a rebuilt one instead. Here are some pictures its pretty sexxy be carful.

my guess on the paint is to be able to tell visually if the bolt is loose.

Can you tell us more about the piston and ring combo you are planning to run? Are you running them in regular alusil bores?

The guy we left the motor with has maid 944 turbo race motor before. What happened was after 150k+ miles this car has on it, the cylinder wall in cylinder 3 and 4 got scored pretty bad.

We are getting JE aluminum pistons. The guy (bill) got 100.50 mm rings cause they are avalable. JE makes pistons to order meaning that you have to order them and they build them for you. The nice thing about JE is that you get pistons, rings, and pins for only ~cough~ 700$!!!!!!!!~Cough~ plus they are lighter and just as strong.

The cylinders are being bored out to 100.50 mm.

Im not sure what you mean by alusil bores

By "Alusil" I meant the original metal (aluminum with silicon) used in the 944 engines. Porsche (and many others) say that you need specially coated pistons for use in this type of bore, such as the original Mahle pistons. For this reason, some folks believe you need to put steel sleeves in the motor in order to run JE or similar pistons. I had a local machine shop suggest JE pistons too, so was curious if you were doing anything special (larger clearances, special coatings) in order to run JE pistons in an un-sleeved block.

Alusil bores are the 'special' material on the cylinder walls.

Nikasil and Alusil pistons work fine on our engines, that is where Kolbenschmit and Mahle use in their pistons as well.

What rebuilt is that? Your sig says you are rebuilding a 1986. Is this a k26/6 or something else? Also where did the shop have it rebuilt? i have an 86 and I am contemplating a K27/6 upgrade and am wondering where to have it done besides places i have heard about here like majestic and turbo performance which i believe are on the other side of the country. I'm over here on this side of the country with you where its cold!
