Is that sleeves to make a 2.5 engine into 3.0? Or is sleeves for a 3.0 block? What motor is in your 86 951 Street Car (sleeved? stroked?)

There are two designs for the MID Sleeves, The 2.5 and the 3.0. They are based on the original block dimensions. The internal cylinder webbing is very different between the two.
The 2.5 based sleeves will bore out to a max of 104mm – (2.7liter with the 2.5 crank or 3.0 with the 3.0 crank)
The 3.0 based sleeves will bore out to 106mm max – (2.8 liter with the 2.5 crank or 3.1 with the 3.0 crank).

The 3.1 street engine that is waiting for the completion of the custom manifold and then engine dyno testing is a 3.0 block with 106mm pistons.
The 2.6 race engine is also based on the 3.0 block (it is a stronger casting and it bolts up to the 16v head) with 101.5mm pistons and a 2.5 crank.

The current engine in the street car is an ‘old style’ dry sleeved 2.75 engine with a Vitesse stage 2 turbo, very impressive how fast this thing spools up and how low (rpm) the power comes on.

Hey Chris.... how much for just the "kit" for a 2.5L motor. I plan to do all the machining myself... I need the pistons, sleeves, and rings, etc. Thanks

Sleeves, pistons and total seal rings would run $1650 (plus shipping).
I applaud the idea of doing it yourself – but if you don’t have good CNC milling equipment don’t do it – we need better than half a thou machining with accurate repeatability.
You will also need a block oven to insure proper installation.

Chris,
Will you use a block we send you for the sleeves? I wanted to keep the same motor in the car so I was hoping you could use my stock block. It is a 2.5 from a 1986. I would like to go with the 104mm bore because I am putting a 3.0 crank in it. I wanted to a a true 3.0. Let me know. Thanks.

Chris:

What kind of $$ am I looking at for just the set of sleeves. I already have some pistons picked out and would like to use them. Will you sell me just the sleeves (I will be installing them myself) Thanks again.

I prefer to use the customers block, that way there is a known history.
Dropping a 3.0 crank in a 2.5 block will cause an interference between the crank and the girdle unless you do a little clearancing work or get aftermarket rods.

Hmmmm....another Chris W out there? I don't know if I can trust a Chris W....

Sure, the 2.5 sleeves run about $700 plus shipping (they are heavy!)

That is funny... I put Chris W to avoid any confusion... I guess I was thinking about the obvious. I will be in touch shortly with funds and a request for sleeves. Thanks again!

Chris,
I planed on doing the whole bottom end with the raced preped crank and new rods. With that being said, would there still be a problem with clearance? I appreciate the time you are taking to get back to us.
