Default Painting calipers

Hi,
My calipers are kinda orange and nasty. I noticed that auto stores sell a paint kit for around $20 or so. Will that sort of brush on paint last or should you really just powdercoat them? How much is it to powdercoat and what would you guys recommend?
Thanks, Josh

most people will say powdercoat but i have this Dupli-color caliper paint kit i got for x-mas... should look nice... Was only 25$ or some thing. I'm gona say go with that instead of : finding some one to powder coat them, get a apointment, pay the extra money.

I didnt think powdercoating would stand the temps.

I have heard of the paint on kits being one of the best ways to paint them. Good luck.

Won't powdercoating kill the internal seals; i.e. you'll have to rebuild the calipers to do it?

Default Porsche Script on calipers

I have an interesting question along those lines...
For those with the Turbo S brakes the PORSCHE script on the
calipers is like a brushed aluminum ... How does one handle that
if its just white you can paint it but if its like the S brakes what do you do ??
regards
Ed

Awesome! Looks like I'll head out to the store if the snow isn't too bad by morning. For $20 it's worth a try.
Thanks guys

For the brushed Porsche script you should be able to sand it back to the brushed look. Or maybe paint and then use a dremel w/ wire brush.

Yeah paint the entire caliper and let that dry. Then take a file to the porsche script and it will come out nicely.

There is a good thread on page 1 (or 2) in the 944 general talking about which colour, which type (VHT vs Laquure (SP?)) and so on......check it out, it is a poll.......

I painted them with VHT paint, red.
Just take off the tire, mask the rubber nipples and valves and paint a couple coats on the entire caliper.
You can sand off the Porsche letters when the paint has dried with a file or fine sandpaper, theyll look great.
Its been a couple months, and the paint still looks like new.

You could also get a set of PORSCHE decals from www.porschedecals.com

Hors
That might look pretty tacky?
Also, I doubt that they would stay on if the calipers really heat up
I roasted a pair of rotors at the track and the calipers actually changed color
from gloss black to dull gray ... Hence I want to paint them
Thanks anyway
Regards
Ed

Ed,
Well, the topic was brought up in the 944 general board of the decal and how to make them 'stand out' or just paint over them. Heck, you could even sand them down after painting

One thing to consider,

Make sure that you tape off the valves really well. Paint can and will seep into the valve threads and the potential to ever rebuild the caliper diminishes cause the valve may not unscrew.
