#1 definitely looks sooty. Are you getting black smoke from the tailpipe? Your FPR may be faulty.

Do you run the car with an O2 sensor? How many mods on this car?

You know, Cyl #2 looks really clean. Might just be the photo and the light, but it looks like it's almost steam cleaned (how is your coolant level? Stable?).

The rest look rich and look to have some oil on the plugs (especially #4 - I think).

It's really easy and cheap (relative to a full engine rebuild) to have the injectors cleaned. Usually about $25/injector at any good diesel engine shop (ask for the ASNU (as new) process). Tends to fix a lot of problems with old gummed up injectors - poor running, leaking, etc.

You should always do this (cheap insurance) when rebuilding an engine, or just once every few years.

Good luck!

FPR is brand new, plugs were changed after install... MODS: Autoauthority chips, downpipe, borla muffler... that's about it... Car runs strong, no noticeable smoke only terrible smell.. RICH to say the least

#1 is most definately running waay rich. #2 seems to be a touch on the lean side, but that might just be because the plugs are so new that it looks like that. #3 and #4 look pretty close to perfect, a touch on the sooty side.
If the FPR is new, then I would be leaning on fuel injectors as the next possible cause of this problem.

Default FPD

Could it be the dampener? Would that cause plug 1 (closest to the FPD) to run too rich?

No, the dampener is basically useless. Yank the fuel injectors out and take them to be cleaned. Most shops will do that in less than a day.

That won't do anything. You have to get them out and have them cleaned professionally. When they do it, they will check the flow, the spray patterns at the correct pressures and they usually end up putting them through the entire process a few times before everything comes out clean. They also replace the little fuel filter inside the fuel injector and replace with the correct caps and o-rings.

The cleaning process involves putting the injectors into an ultrasonic bath and cycling them with the fluid going through them.

Check out the process at http://www.asnu.com. It's worth it. The way that's listed on Pelican's website is a waste of time and effort.

edit: specifically go through http://www.asnu.com/tech/index.htm to see why the pelican method is a total waste of time.

The only reason I have the bosch platinums in are because they were the only ones I could find (locally) after replacing my FPR... I have since had my other set (Bosch Super R6 085) media cleaned and will be putting them back on the car. As for mileage and performance with the platiums... no idea I had just got the car in August and the FPR was already on it's way out... replaced them and drove the car 600 miles or less over a couple of months then stored it for the winter.

Are the Bosch Super's the right plug?

Default Injector Results are in!!!!

Injector Results

Were they really that bad? if not then what else would cause uneven plug readings?
