My Idle screw blew off... and the car still ran!
Is this normal? I had been noticing a dramatic vacuum leak since I installed my Vitesse Chips and 38mm tial WG, and it was just getting worse. Today when I fired her up, I heard a distinct air wizzing sound and the gauge read that I had no vacuum whatsoever except for when coming down from revving it, but then at idle (which was really high.. about 1500rpm) it went back to zero.
I discovered it was the idle screw, called porsche, bought one for $3.70 and put it back on -- good as new!
Question is, is it a really good, bad, or normal sign that my engine ran still only with a really high idle with this condition?
Anyone else had experiences like this?

At the track we just put a peice of tape on a few times to maintain boost as this back its self out regularly. leaves a black mark under the hood, if no sound / heat deadener

I had same thing, I found my original idle screw sitting on the engine !?
The guys on this site said to just put a small rubber o-ring in there along with it (Ace hardware - 25 cents). I haven't had any probs since; it stays put.

Mine came out going to meet up some porsche guys in cleveland. Drove fine on the way up on the highway, slowed down to get off the highway and drove like CRAP! The idle keep dropping LOW, like tring to stall. So I had to heel and toe (one foot to slow me down, the other to keep a 1,500 rpm so it won't stall) until I got to his house. I just bought a bolt to use as a temp then picked up a new one from the dealer the next day.

I don't think you can buy just the screw from Porsche, at least that was the case a few years ago. There is a direct replacment screw from VW. I don't know the number off hand . Do a Google search To find the proper number.
