BUMP -- anyone gotten to the bottom of this? About 1 out of 5 times, the LCD screen will not come on when I turn on the motor. If I turn off the motor and restart it (turning the key slowly so it linger in the ignition position before cranking) it works fine. I'm not sure if the actual zeitronix unit is not booting up (i.e., no dataloggin, no power to the sensor) or if it's just the disply that isn't firing up...

Happens without the laptop connected, so not the serial adapter.

I haven't had an issue like this come up in a long time. Its almost like it stoped doing it. You may want to contact zeitronix directly, their very good with resolutions.

Hmm, for what it's worth, I've been using the zeitronix WB02 for a year or so and I've never had this issue. Contacting Zeitronix might not be a bad idea.

I use an adapter from Iogear, "GUC232A"

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...p?EdpNo=531841

If youre looking locally and cant find that one, this one is basically the same

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...1155&CatId=464

The iogear one has worked fine with my ZT2. I let it run for 2 or 3 days straight sitting on my desk, no drops, nothing odd. Worked fine under Windows 2000 and XP. Ive got at least 100 of the Aten ones in use at work, no dead ones, no issues.

Thanks, but it's not the adapter -- this happens even when the laptop is not connected.

Well, for what it's worth I confirmed that the Zeitronix itself is working even when the LCD is blank. When I hooked up the laptop, I was able to log data even when the LCD was blank. Disconnecting the LCD phone jack and re-inserting it does reset the display and let's it work. I'll send Zeitronix a note and see what they say.

Do you recall the brand name you used?

How do you "rent" an electronic device? Do you mean you purchase it, use it, then return it when done and get a refund??

I tried the IoGear myself, it did not work with the SMT6.. I know of others that had good luck, maybe I have a bad unit..
I ordered few high-quality USB-SERIAL. I will be testing this week, and will report back.

I have the Zeitronix ZT2 unit with both EGT and Boost sensors hooked up.

The Zt2 display sometimes does not come on when I start the car like described, but it is not often enough for me to notice any sort of pattern to it. I usually just re-start the car and it is fine. Never had to restart it twice.

Wow, just noticed Zeitronix not offeres Palm PDA data logging software, cool. Now I can use my Palm cell phone to data log!

Right, exactly. You can also reboot the lcd by just unplugging and replugging its phone jack (the zt-2 itslef is working even when the display doesn't boot).

I've been thinking about a permanent install under the radio, and would hate to have it work 95% of the time...
