Default Crank pulley removal....

Okay, I hate to even ask this, it's just a freakin bolt....is there some trick to getting this b(*&ard off?

I have the flywheel locked, using a 4' bar and can't seem to get it to budge any little hints?

How much can you bench-press?

Push harder.

Have you taken the radiator fans out? Makes it alot easier due to more room to work in the area. Its only 6-bolts as well.

Can you slip a pipe over the breaker bar? Leverage is everything!

I used a non-racheting breaker bar -- then I cut a pipe so that it just cleared the open hood when slipped over the breaker bar. Then pulled with all my might -- when it broke free I was sure I snapped it -- very loud. The first time is always the hardest.

The engine is out of the car.

Mr. Lutjen informs me I need about 2 feet more leverage than the 4 feet I'm already using. I can't mount the block back on the engine stand with the flywheel on so I'm having trouble getting a good fulcrum to keep the block from wanting to move all over the garage floor.

Gotta get this crank out before the wife gets home from vacation so I can hide the evidence of how much I've been screwing off while she and the kids were on vacation.

OT...anyone near Orlando want to house a wife and 4 kids for me if she get's stuck down there during Wilma?? LOL Might be some good spare parts in it for you!!

Have you tried a impact wrench? Might be worth finding someone to borrow the compressor and tools from.

Have a good compressor and IR impact gun...no luck so far.

I'll be fabbing up a 7 ft. bar for the flywheel side (to hold the block steady) and use the 5 foot bar tomorrow night....hope one of the neighbors is home. One of the HEAVY neighbors!!

Like I said, I was embarrased to ask, it's just a stinking bolt.

Hehe. Like the others have said, leverage is everything, but so is impact. Combine the two and you'll bust that puppy loose no problem. Instead of pulling and pulling with all your might, try just "springing" on the lever. Kinda the same concept as when you jump on a bathroom scale.

Obviously you'll still need alot of force, but that method should help it along.

Try heat as well. Have a neighbour hold the flame from a propane torch on the bolt as you apply force with your "elongated" breaker bar. That should work too, especially if the previous mechanic used red loctite.
