Default New here, 951 with option questions

Hello everyone I just picked up an 87 951

I've been looking over the forums here and on clarks garage for tons of info on these cars. The PO had tons of service records and the most of the big things (timing, clutch, water pump and all coolant hoses) were completed at 61k, the car has 74k now.

Pics:

I was wondering about option codes, I took a pic of the sticker and compared them to many sites but I'm still lost with some of them.

A27 - ??
C78 - ??
FV2 - ??
158 - "Reno" radio
395 - Forged wheels
474 - Sport shocks
533 - Alarm
983 - Leather seats

Any help on those other codes?

Go to: http://forums.rennlist.com/

and then under "General" go to the option decoder. But those codes don't yield anything. So that doesn't help much does it.

5R means you have the LSD with the cooling loop and most likely the "cup" clutch disc as well.

The interior is called cancan and you also have sport seats. Very nice options.

AWESOME!! That is good news to me. When I first test drove the car I was bummed that I didn't see the 220 code back there. The PO didn't even know how to get to the spare!!

Zeff - let me know when ya go
I love that place, and the Cherohala Skyway.
On bike, in car, whatever, I like going.
I drive up from near ATL about once a month during spring/summer.

Zeff, you've a got good one here! Great interior condition and rare color combo...I've never seen a cancan red/sport seat/white exterior car before.

Very interesting that the car might have the limited slip and exterior cooling loop without showing the 220 option, also. Get out to the driveway and get us a snap from underneath the tail to confirm I would love to know more about this 5R code...did it combine the tranny and Cup clutch as a special order single upgrade?

Hell, with a little hype maybe we can get somebody at Barrett-Jackson to start talking about this as if it was the Porsche version of the Chevy COPO cars

If the original transaxle is in it, he has LSD with the cooling loop. According to the technical specifications booklet, 5R denotes the LSD with oil cooler option. But, my theory about the cup disc is just that, a theory based on two cars. Hardly proof of an option combo.

I have an '87 5R car, and it came with the cup clutch originally, and I had an '86 5R parts car that had the cup clutch as well. I have a friend with an '88 5R and he has over 125k miles on the original clutch. The stock clutches do not normally last that long, so I suspect he has the cup disc as well.

I'll get a pic of the rear when I get a chance, but it is raining now and WNC is rainiest place in the continental US.
