Before you buy a car, you need to ask yourself what you hope to get out of the car. Is it:
* need a daily driver
* need a weekend fun street car
* need a track car
* be in a cool-looking car
* something to tinker with on occasional weekend
* a restoration project
* a major project that other enthusiasts would think is cool
* a fun project precisely because it's a major project
IMHO, the right person to buy this car will say 'yes' to only the last one.

didn't get the chancxe to look at it. I was too busy being a rowdy biker at the Austin rally. Anyway, it's still on craigs list in austin. Has any one here looked at this car and what did they think.
I did get to look at a 928 that was onthe San Antonio list. Needs a lot of work to bring that shark back.

odie, this "conversion" is not in Brownsville is it? If it is and it's connected to a guy with a last name of Molina or Serna, I would just be very careful, these guys are known not to do the job right the first time or they mix and match. If it's not, good luck.
My partner in the track car is in Corpus but very busy over the next couple of months with a huge commercial job over at Kewitt shipyard, otherwise, I'd put you in touch with him and you could take the car to him for a closer PPI, he has a lift at his shop as well.

odie, I agree with the others who are expressing caution about this. a 951 in poor condition can be a black hole for money - much less a conversion that you are not sure about. Saving money on a 951 means buying the best conditioned one you can find and paying up for it at the start. Getting anykind of 951 that you are not sure about, much less a conversion could be a real nightmare. Be carefull...

The car is in Austin. I have not viewed it. I did call the guy and the car does not run yet. He just got tired or whatever. It is posted for sale on craigslist.org in austin texas. There are some pictures and a brief description.
Surley there is someone here on rennlist who lives in austin and has looked at this car???? and give us a first hand opinion...
The guy claims he had lots of calls....

Anyone who is "Too tired" to spend "Just two weekends" getting a car running is not the kind of person I would trust to do a detailed and complete job of a transplant. He knows hes got a junker, that being said, run away.

That's exactly my concern....WHY did he not finnish it or atleast get it running?
I would have swapped the engine and gotten it all running right...THEN swap the nose, suspension, transaxle, brakes, etc on the weekends as I enjoy turbo power during the week.
I can't see the logic of swapping all the other stuff until you know the thing is even gonna run...

lots of possible reasons;
1) motor has grenaded
2) tranny/clutch has grenaded
3) ecu/klr has grenaded
4) it's never worked right and possibly never will
add that to;
1) needs full paint job (at least $2k)
2) needs unknown parts and labor (potentially >+$20k)
add that to;
1) even upon completion, this car will still not be a 'real' 951
in any case, a non-running, non-factory, non-documented car with no known history? i'd say he'd be lucky to get $200 for the whole thing for parts.
this sale has 'scam' written all over it.
