I've never seen one of these things but is it just a sunroof with a clear piece of plexiglass? Does it include some sort of sliding cover for the inside to block out sunlight?

it's tempered glass, weighs 5 pounds less than the stock roof.

it's mirror-tinted so you don't need a sliding cover.

saving 5 pounds off the top of your car = better cornering performance (i'm serious)

At $700, I haven't figured out why some aftermarket company doesn't make replicas of these.

people have tried. nobody has gotten one to market yet.

i would think that the r&d costs of making a high quality tempered glass with tint would be pretty darn high. how many people here can even make custom glass?

gt-racing does make a fiberglass one, but it is not see-through. its sole purpose is to save weight and it costs $300;

it might be easier for someone to make a replica out of lexan for see-through, but i'm sure the quality would be pretty crappy and it would fade/yellow/crack over time.

Actually, the GT-Racing one is $200 in fiberglass, which is of course a bit heavier than their claimed 1.5lbs.

Is the stock sunroof really 22lbs? It is pretty freaking heavy and with the interior trim and everything I can see it being over 20lbs. Too bad I don't have a scale at home.

you've just answered your own question then. why not have them make you a custom see-through roof and bring it to market yourself?

Why are these units always missing hinges? Are the hinges that hard to get?
