Talking We"re Waiting....

To John at Vitesse:
The new 2007 997 Turbo has the turbo charger with the new Variable Turbine Geometry (VTG) so when are you going to come out with a turbo with VTG for our cars?

Actually, the new Acura 2.3 liter turbocharged engine also has a form of VTG. I would expect that model turbo to be a bit too small, but probably way cheaper than the porsche equivalent. I think the variable geometry is implemented differently as well in the Acura engine.

I haven't seen one, but from what I have read the turbo on the Acura has a type of dual ports on the inlet of the turbine. one is always closed and only opens ander computer control. there by flow is accelerated at low revs and boost comes in sooner. It is pertty simple in theory.

I wonder if this type of turbo could be adopted to our cars?...........it seems like great idea. What do the experts think?

If I am not mistaken the angle of the turbine blades changes, just like the helicopter blades.

It changes tha geometry based on rpm, throttle positiion, etc and greatly reduces lag. I'll have to look into the article again, but the 997T is making goood boost around 2k rpms.

I wonder how much hi-end flow those fancy turbo's have on the 997. We might see tuners replacing them with good ol fashion high-flow turbo's if the fancy one's run out of breath.

I checked out the link, very cool. Since we're on the topic of turbos, is there a turbo for the 944 that can hit 1bar under 3000rpm? Essentially, what is the quickest spooling turbo option for the 951? Best I've seen is Laust's modified 26/8 which is about 1bar at 3100.

I think if you want to compare the quickest spooling turbos on a 951, we have to put them into two categories, those with #6 hotside and those with #8 hotside.
