Anyone in the Seattle area?
Hello,
I am looking for opinions on a good shop to take my 951 to somewhere in the Seattle area. I actually live about 20 miles south of Seattle. I am looking to just have the belts changed. I appreciate any advice. A quality shop is first priority, but I also would rather not pay a ridiculous amount for a belt change.

I went to Too Quick's German auto repair in Tacoma. They were professional and very expierenced.
Note: don't let the name discourage you, they had many Porsches on the lot including a 993 track car, 996s, 928s and a few 944s.

Squire's is pricey, but they will do the job right - another option is Gerber Motorsports in Seattle. Also, you may try Hermann's in Seattle as well - I think they're on Roosevelt. One other option is Conaway Motors in Everett, but they do not have the special belt tensioning tool. I would use them for more routine non-critical tasks - they are very honest.
Remember that while the mechanic is in there, there may be a need to replace the front seals...

I read the post wrong, if its just belts then i wouldn't go to squires because of the reason said above "price". I was thinking timing belt and in that case would have gone to Squires. Park Place LTD in bellevue (which i work at) has a full service department with a technician Gordy who used to own 944's. This is where i have all my 944 stuff done/looked at.

Yeah we get some cool cars in here.
The last place that i recently had good business with is Eastside services inc in issaquah. They replaced the belts on my eclipse for $40 + belts and tightened them up for free a couple days later. Not sure how good they are with porsches but i mean belts are belts, not rocket science to put on/off. (only had them do my belts b/c i needed a lift haha).

Je_951,
I was talking about doing the timing belts. Sorry, I should have made that clear. Would you not recommend your place, Park Place LTD, for timing belt and balance belt then? You would definetely go to Squires for that? What would you say squires would charge for the timing belt change? I am fairly certain the front seals are alright, I lose absolutely no oil whatsoever.
Thanks to everyone for the replies. I am new to the Porsche community. Feels like home already.
(As far as belts being belts, I would like to go somewhere that will tension them properly, and also be familiar enough with the 951 to spot anything serious with the car.)

Fedway 951: You should try Auto Services West. The owner Steve races a 944 turbo and works on his own cars and those of others. He used to work on my 944 turbo as well. He has great rates and doesn't charge you book hours. For example if the book quotes 3 hours and he finishes in 1.5 you get charged for 1.5. You can go to www.aswest.net and get in touch with him through phone or email. Let him know Ignacio sent you.

Pixelgrinder,
If you go to www.craigslist.org and search the Seattle Tacoma area, a few 951's come up. Seem like reasonable prices for this area as well.

Another source in Tacoma is Pete Bristow, Bristow's Automotive. They have plenty of experience, are very meticulous, and have done excellent work on my 86 951. If you're a PCA member, you've maybe seen his ad in the Spiel.
