Thumbs down Crap! Just got a boost leak.

I am getting, and jsut happened today, only about 8-10 psi. I assume a crack or split somewhere as boost is being made and then the leak gives way and only makes/holds 8-10 psi.

Also, it is really loud in regards to hearing the turbo spooling or the amount of air leaking. but if still making/holding about 10psi, it can't be that big/obvious a leak...????

Well, idle is fine so I am sure it is after the turbo and not a vac leak.

All hoses/boost lines are pretty much new.

Bigger turbo and Tial so that eliminates those issues.

Billet DV, but I guess I can check it also.

I will do a pressure test when I get home from work and hopefully will find it easy.

Do you have stock CO pipe? If so look at the CO2 bung and see if it rotted and cracked open.

I would say check your j boot, but that probably wouldnt allow 9psi of boost. You would probably feel the boost cut if it was. if that helps

Pressurized the top side and everything looks fine.

Pulled the DV and all is well.

I am thinking it is exhaust side. Also it is very loud as I can here the leak or turbo really spooling.

How long has the tial been installed? If you did not lock the bolts on the adapters in some way they could have come loose. Happened to me.

Tial has been on about a year or so.

I will get the car up and check all the exhaust soon.

It seems to spool pretty normal, but then at 8-10, jsut stops and then really hear the turbo/leak from outside.

Todd, check the rubber hose that connects the turbo to the intercooler pipe. I also pressurized my entire intake side (except for this hose) and couldn't find it. Your symptoms sound identical to mine and I had a huge tear in that hose. It is a difficult hose to see so use your hands to feel it and see if there is a tear. It may be worth pulling out as its only like a 15 minute job.

Good luck.

do you know anyone with a smoke tester. i had a bosst leak foreever and could not find it. Bought a smoke tester and it works really well. It will only go to 20 psi but if you are runnig less they are worth the money.

SHOULD THE FRONT SIDE/COLD SIDE OF MY TURBO BE LOOSE?????

I am thinking NOT. But before I blast the company that sold me this turbo (as a replacement for their ruebuilt turbo that blew to ****)

Anyone???

As I was checking the turbo to IC hose, I tugged and noticed the turbo was moving back and forth on the front/clode side.

Fixable??

If so, is this a turbo I should keep???
