You can pass CA smog with 72# injectors!
I just wanted to let everyone know that it is indeed possible to pass CA smog with everything listed in my signature. I really think it comes down to the excellent chip from Russel Berry (thanks Russel!).
I was absolutely fearing the worst going to the test only smog station. I figured I would completely fail and at the least have to go buy a new oxygen sensor. I really thought that I would have to go purchase a new cat from some vendor.
I really thought I was in trouble when the technician tested the 15 mph test in 2nd gear, at around 1500rpm. And then he did the 25mph test in 3rd gear at around 1500rpm again. I tried to convince him to test in one gear lower due to the "higher gearing built for tearing up the autobahn". He just said, "I go by what my book tells me."
So then the screen said the following:
15 mph test
HC: Measured = 47, Max = 116
CO: Measured = 0.16, Max = 0.74
NO: Measured = 360, Max = 791
25 mph test
HC: Measured = 30, Max = 91
CO: Measured = 0.17, Max = 0.62
NO: Measured = 468, Max = 730
I couldn't believe it! Everything was in green and said passed. I was so excited that he asked me if I thought it would fail. I said, "Noooo, I knew it would pass." Ha ha.
So you too can pass CA smog with 72# injectors and a larger turbo! What a great day!

So I am now confused. Some CA people go so far as to install a stealth MAF because any non-OEM part will cause a fail. And you go with full on tons of aftermarket stuff including huge turbo, and you pass?
Is it only certainly counties that have visual vs test or what?

This station does have a visual inspection. If you take a look at my engine bay you wouldn't notice a thing unless you owned a 951. The turbo is completely hidden by all the usual stuff (hard pipes, intake manifold, stock air box). This particular station doesn't have a lift so they don't check under the car. They wouldn't notice the Tial wastegate anyway because I painted it flat black. The evo bypass valve is also painted flat black.
Really, as long as you keep the stock airbox and don't have any crazy chrome parts most places wouldn't know what was supposed to be where.

BB, see above for the Tial explanation. I do indeed still have the stock AFM. I would like to go to the stealth kit sometime but I'm actually quite satisfied with my car at the moment (a crazy thing to say for any 951 owner).

I can't help but make a rant here:
It's really a shame the government feels the need to tell us what we can and can't do to our own possesions. I am all for a better enviroment and can understand smog testing. What I don't get is why some states are trying to prevent people from doing anything fun to thier cars! They are trying to slowly kill off all the car enthusiast. Really what freakin difference does it make what you do to your car as long as it's higway safe and passes with acceptable emission numbers? Heck a perfectly tuned 951 should have lower emissions then many of the doemestic cars had brand new in 1986-1989.
Ok I feel and little better now now that I said it

so tell me how does all of these big tuner shops with crazy evos, supras, etc pass emissions and they have TONS of bling bling. When you look at the tuner magazines all you see is cali cars. EXPLAIN THAT

They probably aren't registered. I don't know about Ca but some states allow you to pay a rediculous fee to licsence a vehicle without inspection.

Thanks..
She is running. I am installing the Wasted spark system it's proving to be more than I expected. Hope to have it on the road in the next month or so..

Very nice! That sounds like it will be a very fun car. At the smog place that I went to the only thing that may draw their eye is the billet fuel rail. Everything else should be no problem.
