Call your nearest Porsche dealership, give them the VIN number and they'll have a new key cut for you in a few business days. I did this when I bought my first 951. (Only works if your locks have never been changed though of course).

I walked into home depot, cut it myself and left.

With my girlfriends, I went in there, put the right cartridge in and then the guy just pushed the button

Default getting keys made when...

...Home Depot does not have a Porsche key....
My N/A was able to use a VW key blank. Simply compare the shape and length of one of your keys to that of a few blanks. Who knows, Audi blanks might work too.

Also, don't let the ones with the Porsche head stop you from getting them cut somewhere other than the dealer$hip.

The key blade portion can be removed from the head to be cut. I would suggest that you have them cut a cheapo one first and test it though before you let them ruin the one that fits in the Porsche lighted head.

Yeah I got a blank from 944online.com also and went to my local Lowes and Home Depot, both said they couldn't cut it. When they put the key into their automatic cutters and pressed the start button it just made a loud beep/alarm go off and wouldn't begin the cutting process. I haven't had a chance to find an old school key cutter in my area, so in the meantime I have a nice new key that doesn't do anything yet.

i was told by a lock place that cutting a steel key- as opposed to a coated silver key - screws up the blade which is over 600 dollars each. Places that care for their equipment will not cut your key for you as to not screw up their blade- unless they have a proper blade for steel keys. Places that have kids working there that dont know better will do it all day long.

Wow, I didn't pay NEAR that much. I'd have to go back and look but I think it was around $25 - $30 for the key from the dealership. That did not include the lighted key head though, it was just the metal key and a very small, thin, black, plastic key head that I then took off and put in the lighted head I bought from Pelican or Paragon or whatever.

Yup, $120, what's funny is the guy made it sound justifiable. He told me I had to fax him my title and registration and that there was a lot of paperwork behind it, I guess he just really didn't want to bother, but it's ok, I have my duplicates and I can live without the Porsche head, besides, I have the factory keychain!

Hi to all of U, I'm a new Porsche 911 owner (Just got it 3 hrs ago) : ) It's nice to own this sexy babe

I've a question about the thread, so, it will cost $2.99 for a new key to made from an old school key cutter shop, then to get a key bank from ebay for less than $10. Could I still have the remote control function in my new key?

Or Do I have to pay around $120 to reprogram it? And Does it allow me to do it with a key bank from eBay? Thanks!

I got the blank from the dealer, for about $20.00. it was the one with the small black plastic head.
Lock shop cut it for about $5.00
