Name calling is one thing, but making some ones top secret project public is just not cool. Where did you get these spy shots from any way.

Consider the following stats, compiled from a variety of national and state transportation agencies, and it's easy to see the answer is to take it to the track.

In 2001, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that police listed street racing as a factor in 135 fatal crashes. The total was up from 72 street-racing-related fatalities reported in 2000.
According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, more than 800 citations for illegal street racing were issued in 2001.
In San Diego, where the street racing problem has been termed "epidemic," 16 deaths and 31 injuries were directly related to illegal street racing in 2001. The city's attorney's office prosecuted 147 illegal street racing cases in 1999, 161 in 2000, and 290 in 2001.
In Florida in 2001, 7,216 citations were issued for racing on the highway.
In 1999, the Florida Department of Highway and Safety for Motor Vehicles reported 28 accidents related to illegal street racing, with 2 fatalities and 27 injuries. In 2000, the agency reported 39 racing accidents, with 1 fatality and 55 injuries. In 2002, there were 48 racing accidents, 1 fatality, and 60 injuries.
According to the NHTSA, motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for people between the ages of 16 and 20.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety says 5,749 teens died in the United States from motor vehicle crash injuries in 1999.
Nationwide statistics show that 49 people are injured for every 1,000 who participate in illegal street racing.
As a result, city and state ordinances have been issued regarding illegal street racing. Though laws vary, here are some penalties faced by street racers:

You can be arrested and have your car impounded for 30 days.
If convicted of street racing or aiding and abetting a street race, you can be imprisoned for up to three months and fined up to $1,000. Spectators are subject to penalties as well.
Your driver's license can be revoked.
Your car insurance may be cancelled or the rates dramatically increased.
Cars in and around illegal street races are often issued equipment violations.
75% of statistics are made up.

We used to have a local public safety TV commercial where a highway patrol quoted...

20% of all highway fatalities involved speeding. And that 80% of drivers speed.

My question is, Why aren't they going after the 20% non-speeders that are causing 80% of the highway fatalities?

The non-speeders are the ones I worry about. U of M did a study years ago about the risk of people speeding vs the casual driver. This study showed most accidents happened when people were simply not paying attention to the road. Cell phones, DVD players, TVs, kids, radio, friends in the car, etc. put people at a greater risk of an accident then "reasonable" speeding.

The study further showed that many people that do speed are paying more attention to the road rather then adjusting the radio and talking on their phone. For one they are watching for police, and also watching for other traffic.

There are a bunch of statistic and what not in the study but having taken a few statistic classes in college, I have learned stats mean nothing other then what you want them to mean...so nothing. lol I just found the information interesting.

As for racing I agree most, not all, people sadly are not paying attention to the road nor thier car either. These people have thier eyes on the car in front, next to, or behind them hoping to pull away.

me a constant 100mph on highway vs my girlfriend at constant 60mph

She will hit cars and I wont. Most accidents are caused by people just not paying attention. WHen I go fast I know what kind, color, which side, distance, and speed of all cars around me. My girlfriend know how far the car in front of her is. now tell me who is safer?

Funny story: Me and a buddy went out on a highway together, lined up (late, around 1am) and hit it. Went well over the speed limit but it was a strait road, 4 lanes wide, and we had a lane between us. We get done, pull off and talk in aparking lot right up agianst the highway. about 5 mins later a car comes and tages the side guard rail right infront of us. we run over and ask her what happened. her exact words: "I dropped my lip gloss and reached over to get it and when I looked up I hit the wall".

now if she had been racing or going a speed tha she was somewhat intimidated by, she would have not been paying attention to the lip gloss.

Sometimes people just have to learn the hard way about this stuff. There's a grey line between spirited driving and reckless driving and street racing.

I know thats what it took for me, and I wasnt even the driver! My jackass friend had to try and show off what his RX7 turbo could do and we rolled the thing at highway speed! An S2000 pulled up an entrance ramp on us accelerating hard, and of course he HAD to floor it AND had not put the brake system together properly. I was lucky to walk away with some bruises as he broke several bones.
After that experience I NEVER take my eyes off the road, not to mention what a cautious driver it made me. I check all my fluids and inspect all the important parts of the car every few days or so. Id rather not ever be in that situation again! Eventually everyone learns either the easy or the hard way that street racing and careless driving can get you killed (or others). This thread seems like an argument between the "old guys," and the "young guys" who maybe havent had one of those near death experiences yet.
