Default Just bought 2 track cars

I was in Charleston, SC at Autometrics and came across two 951 Track cars for sale. I was in the process of building a 951 track car, but this was too good a deal to pass up. The cars were built in 2002 and 2003 and so may be a little outdated. Both are 3 liter cars. The red one with a 968 engine and the black one with a sleeved, bored and stroked 2.5. Both engines have less than 1000 miles on them and run great.

It was a package deal. Both cars had the same owner and he wanted to get rid of them both. This way I can choose the one I want to keep and will eventually sell the other. I probably bought both for what it would have cost me to build one on my own.

Very nice!! But it sounds like you have too much expendable income, and I could use a new step-dad.

So how about it?

Anyway, will be a fun project to sort through and determine which setup you like the best. The value of all the parts and the cars themselves is way over $20,000. I would assume you paid 3/4 that price?

I might be interested in one of them. Let me know when the time comes to sell.

I haven't added up the stack of bills I received with the cars but, since the work was done in two first class shops, Its safe to say the building cost was well over $60K for both cars. I will be traveling until Aug. 15th and then I will begin sorting out both cars.

Does anyone have an idea on the "Custom LSD" While it was described as a "Detroit Locker", I really doubt it. It may just be a Porsche LSD set up at 80% instead of 40%. It really jerks the outside wheel when cornering at very slow speeds (parking etc.). Does anyone have experience with a Porsche LSD shimmed for 80% ?

I've driven a 928 with 917 discs in the lsd. Dennis K here on Rennlist has that setup, installed by DEVEK.

I think I'll be going to the US in august for 2-3 weeks vacation, let me know if you are ready to sell.

The 917 discs are in the 951 lsd

You can't really shim the porsche lsd up to 80%, sounds like it is a custom diff or it is just locked, better on the track anyway.

Sure you can. Steinels here in Cleveland has been doing it for years. They use 930 discs.

Well I am sure they call them that, but they don't really behave like a proper motorsport style diff.

The former owner owner of the red car has contacted me, so I hope the mystery of the Custom LSD will soon be revealed. I am leaving in a week for 2 1/2 months of sailing and so will have little or no time to go through the cars. I will probably put one of them up for sale in September or October. Both cars are 8 valve. the red one started with a 968 block and the black one with a 951 block.
